Night Falls on Manhattan

A tolling bell signaled the show was about to begin as creepy torchbearers in hoods directed the audience down a dark path through the woods. It was certainly fright night in Brooklyn's Prospect Park for the premiere of M. Night Shyamalan's new thriller, "The Village."

All the film's stars were there, including Adrien Brody, Joaquin Phoenix and Sigourney Weaver, and all hailed Hollywood's new Hitchcock: 33-year-old M. Night Shyamalan.

But Brody told us not to be afraid of the Night, saying, "I know him as a friend and when you know people on a personal level, even the darkest ones seem to be less dark."

First-time movie actress Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of director Ron Howard, received praise for her haunting performance in the film. And Phoenix said he found working with Howard to be, "Intimidating -- because she's extraordinary."

"I'm quite a drama queen so it was nice to do a bit of screaming now and then," Howard admitted.

Like Hitchcock, M. Night Shyamalan often makes cameos in his movies. So can fans expect to see him in "The Village?" "If I said no I might be lying," Night told us. "If I said yes, then I might be lying. You can't trust me."

One thing you can trust, "The Village" will be open for screaming, starting on Friday.
