Stars Stump for Washington's 'Candidate'
The red carpet premiere of "The Manchurian
Candidate" brought out a full ballot of famous faces
for a dazzling night of secrets, surprises and Oscar winners.
While Meryl Streep laughed it up with director
Jonathan Demme, Denzel Washington made a surprise confession
about the original "Manchurian Candidate" -- he's
never seen it. "I didn't want to be affected by it; I
wanted to create my own character," he explained. "And
because I was eight when it came out."
Streep also came clean, revealing a similar secret of her
own about the original film: "I'd never seen it; I don't
know, I haven't seen most of the classic films."
Unlike Denzel and Meryl, the beautiful Jodie Foster, admitted
she's a fan of the first "Manchurian Candidate,"
but told us, "I purposely haven't seen the movie in a
long time and haven't read the book so I can have an open
heart about this film."
"Ocean's 11" and "12" star Don Cheadle
played reporter at the premiere, grabbing our microphone to
interview Denzel, asking him, "I hear you're going to
be doing the Sammy Davis, Jr. story soon."
"I'm developing it, and hopefully we'll come up with
a good script," Washington responded.
Wynona Ryder, Jeff Goldblum and Farrah Fawcett were also among
the many famous faces in attendance, along with a vibrant
Nia Vardalos, who excitedly showed off her new slim figure.
And no one could miss red-hot Jamie Foxx, who admitted that
playing Ray Charles in the late singer's upcoming bio-pic
and starring with Tom Cruise in "Collateral" are
more than he ever dreamt of: "That's been my whole thing
since I got to LA, I still pinch myself. I always pinch myself."
You can check out "The Manchurian Candidate" for
yourself when it hits theaters everywhere on July 30th.
