John Travolta’s next movie has him playing with fire! “Extra” hit the set of “Ladder 49” to see how the star trained for his hot new role.

John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix are in harm's way shooting their new movie. “Extra” spent the day at the set, which Director Jay Russell pointed out was a real-life gutted apartment.

Travolta had this to say, "We're dealing with the real thing there. Phoenix rejoined, "It's a scary moment when you come upon a wall of flame."

In the film, Phoenix plays a trapped firefighter who flashes back to his early days on the job. And of course, Travolta is his mentor.

Travolta joked, “I don't mind that at all. I like being the fellow that has the experience and shares it with younger people."
