Ashley Judd
Ashley Judd is at the center of the mother of all "mother-daughter" chick flicks. The truth is out about "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," this summer's coming of age film. The film also stars Sandra Bullock who plays a woman forced to make peace with her drama queen mom, played in flashbacks by both Ellen Burstyn and Judd.
Judd tells "Extra," "For me, filming in the south in the spring was so different and so wonderful."
Kentucky-raised Ashley was excited about the chance to play a real southern belle.
In fact, "Ya-Ya" comes from an old southern expression. She says, "It's basically a real woman, a woman whose life is full of ups and downs, pluses and minuses."
About her southern accent in the film, Judd says, "The
minute I got on the plane in Nashville, I just started talking
that way."
But when her real life hubby, racecar driver, Dario Franchitti, got an earful, he tried to put the brakes on it. She says, "My husband was freaking out. Then his friends got on the phone and they thought it was really funny and fortunately they helped him find the humor in it."
Ashley's biggest laugh recently was over the false rumor that
co-star Sandra was maid of honor at Ashley’s December wedding.
Judd reveals, "She was really funny because I sent her
an e-mail and I said, 'You know I got married.' And she said,
'Yeah I know I was your maid of honor.' I just tell everybody
I was too drunk to remember anything."
That won't be the case with "Ya-Ya Sisterhood," an emotional journey no mother and daughter will forget.
