Summer Movies Sizzle
This summer brings more can’t-miss movies than
ever before, so as a public service, "Extra" presents
this checklist to help you plan your multiplex madness.
We went on location where bad meets evil in
Vin Diesel's sci-fi thriller "The Chronicles of Riddick,"
which features out of this world, $100 million dollar stunts
and special effects.
Diesel is joined by Judi Dench and sexy Thandie Newton as he
reprises his star-making role of Riddick, from the cult-thriller,
"Pitch black." "It's so much fun," says
Vin.
Next, take a trip to the future, 2035 to be exact, for Will
Smith's sci-fi mystery "I, Robot." In the world of
the movie, everybody has personal robots and Will plays a detective
trying to solve the first robot murder. Will tells us, "It's,
like, really a great movie; the story is incredible."
Believe it or not, the beautiful blondes you’ll see in "White
Chicks" are actually the Wayans brothers, playing FBI agents
gone undercover as spoiled female socialites. Marlon Wayans
lost 25 pounds and says it's no easy task sitting in a makeup
chair five hours a day. "This was a very hard movie,"
admitted Marlon. "It was not for the faint-hearted."
And "Extra" was first on the set of the summer romance tearjerker, "The Notebook," based on Nicholas Sparks' best selling novel following teenage lovers into their twilight years. Rachel McAdams has her first leading part alongside another hot young actor,
Ryan Gossling, who says this is best role of his career: "I usually get cast as killers or psychos or somebody with some sort of mental deficiency, so it's nice."
And only we were on location with super spy Matt Damon running through the streets and beaches of Europe while shooting "The Bourne Supremacy." The sequel to 2002's hit "The Bourne Identity" was shot in Berlin, India and Moscow and features a massive chase scene, something never attempted in Russia before.
What about some secrets from the set of "Spider-Man 2?" Tobey Maguire is back as Peter Parker, but this time they've upped the ante to a reported $200 million, double the cost of the first flick. The results: amazing effects and unimaginable action.
"Extra" also has your first look at "The Village," the latest from "The Sixth Sense" director M. Knight Shyamalan. Details remain top-secret, but you can expect chills and spine tingling suspense, not to mention an all-star cast, including Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, who warns, "Everything that happens to the characters along the way is a huge surprise."
And thrills and chills go along with the murder, suspense and escaped prisoners you’ll find at Hogwarts this summer, in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." We went behind the scenes in London for a first look at the third installment of this more than $600 million dollar movie franchise. Be sure to check out some more magical moments from the film with the scenes available on our "Harry Potter" movie page.
And of course, we’ve only given you a partial list; you can already catch "Van Helsing," "Troy," and "Shrek 2;" and this weekend, "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Soul Plane" entered theaters. Plus, in the coming months, you can look for "Collateral" with Tom Cruise, and "The Terminal" with Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Be sure to check with "Extra" for details of these and the rest of the summer’s movie offerings.
So whatever your taste -- action, suspense, comedy or romance -- the summer box office has it all.
