Surviving Hollywood
He jumped from "The Lion's Den" right into a town filled with vampires, but for Rob Lowe, that's precisely what gets his blood flowing. We caught up with Rob and learned what's he's got waiting in the wings.
"I've been a busy boy," Lowe told
us, and it's true. He'll soon be seen sinking his teeth into
the Stephen King classic "Salem's Lot," next month
on TNT. Rob takes on the role of a journalist who uncovers the
horror that has taken over his hometown in New England. "This
thing is like, no fooling scary," Lowe warned. "So
if you don't want to get scared, don't watch this."
But that's only the beginning of the Lowe-down -- if you want
to get a full dose of Rob TV, you can also catch him back in
primetime this fall, starring in "Dr. Vegas," on CBS.
"I've been playing button-down straight guys and having
a blast for so long," Lowe said. "But I was ready
to play a guy who is a little bit of a bad guy."
Though the former brat-packer was once notorious for his real
life bad behavior, those days are now long-gone. Now happily
married and the father of two, Rob also co-chaired Arnold Schwarzenegger's
successful run for California governor last year. "If he
wants a good stogie and some laughs, and if he wants to be reminded
of how tough show business is, I'm the guy," Lowe joked.
Lowe just celebrated his 40th birthday, but he still looks like
a man half his age so what's the secret? "It's all genetics,"
he insisted. "It's like those guys with the washboard abs.
I do 100 sit-ups a day. I don't look like Brad Pitt. It's all
his genetics."
And Rob's secret to surviving in Hollywood? "Pick your battles. You learn that when you get older," Lowe said, then added, "And then, I think, happy wife, happy life."
