Update: The Sin City Scam

On March 19, 2007 we posted an article about a gag played on Carlos Diaz at an event in Las Vegas. The article described an incident during the event when a man representing himself as Adam Hall rushed onto the stage, instigated an argument and was then escorted away by police officers. We now have been informed by the real Adam Hall that the man on stage was part of the gag, and was not really Adam Hall. The real Adam Hall was not at the event and had nothing to do with the gag played on Carlos Diaz. We regret any misunderstanding that this may have caused.

Sin City Welcomes Biggest Party on the Strip

1119planet.jpg

"Extra" was front and center this weekend for the grand opening of the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, where the party was so big, the entire Vegas Strip was shut down for the stars!

With “Extra’s” logo blazing high atop the Strip, only Carlos Diaz and Tanika Ray had Bruce Willis, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Sly Stallone and Pamela Anderson coming straight to our elevated platform on the red carpet.

“I'm very excited about all the people that came out!” Bruce told “Extra” as the crowd went wild. Later in the night, Bruce performed with the Bruce Willis Blues Band but joked about his musical talents.

Nick Lachey: ‘This Has Been a Year of Rebuilding’

Nick Lachey is celebrating a birthday, a new restaurant and a solid relationship with girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo. But it wasn’t always that way.

“I don’t think you can get much worse than the year before [2006],” Nick confessed last night at his Sin City restaurant, Company American Bistro. “The last year has been good. Been in the studio working on a new album. I’m excited to get that out in 2008.”

Nick and Vanessa headed to Vegas to toast the restaurant’s opening, as well as their birthdays. Nick turned 34 and Vanessa turned 27 on Nov. 9, and "Extra's" Carlos Diaz was the only reporter inside for an exclusive chat.

From the Glitz of Vegas to the Ritz of Maui

Living in Las Vegas, everyday is a vacation: a chaotic, wild, all-night, strobe-lit, party-until-the-sun-comes-up vacation. And I'm in the middle of it all 24/7.

So when it came time for me to pick a spot for MY vacation, I wanted to get away to the most relaxing place on Earth. I longed for a place where the thumping bass and the slot-machine-bings of the Vegas Strip would be a distant memory... a place where screaming crowds were non-existent… and a place that I didn't have to spend three hours standing in line at a foreign customs department to get into.

Well, I found that place, and if you promise to keep this between you and me, I'll tell you all about it.

Maui.

Hasselhoff on Tape Surfacing: 'It's A Very Private Thing'

For the first time since his infamous tape exploded around the world, David Hasselhoff is giving his first in-depth interview, only to “Extra.”

It’s been a month since the tape, which showed a drunken David incoherent on the floor of a hotel room while his daughter taped, was first released.

David told us exclusively, “What’s important is that I'm a dad and that they respect me and I respect them and I live for my kids.”

He added, “Everybody buys into the tape.”

Delicious Food That Helps You Lose Weight

My butt is small.

And I don't mean that in a figurative sense. You know, like when guys get in trouble and say, "Aw, man, my butt is so dead!" I mean it in a truly literal sense. My butt REALLY IS small. More on that later.

You see, being “Extra’s” Las Vegas correspondent does have it drawbacks. I mean, they don't call this town Sin City for nothin'! I have managed to stay away from the gambling, the booze, the partying and the ladies. (Because, in order, I'm unlucky, a lightweight, a bad dancer and married.)

But Vegas took me down with a different temptation: the buffets! I've packed on more than a few "LB's" since moving here from Manhattan Beach, California, two years ago. Weekends of surf and sun at the beach became weeks of surf and turf in the desert. How much did I gain? Hard to say. But 15 to 20 pounds would be a safe estimate.

Hey, it's not entirely my fault. Las Vegas was just voted the Fattest City in America by Men's Fitness Magazine. So at least I have company.

Welllllllllll, my bosses at “Extra” thought it would be a great idea to see if one of the best trainers in the world combined with one of the best meal services in the country could slim me down.

The Power of Sin City

There are several types of “power” within the Las Vegas nightclub scene.

When it comes to celebrities, the club owners have the power to book the biggest stars in order to get their venues mentioned on shows like “Extra,” and the club managers have the power to make sure last minute celeb arrivals get the VIP service that will keep them coming back.

When it comes to the common folk like us, the bartenders have the power to ignore six dudes yelling for drinks for 30 minutes in order to serve two stunning young ladies who he thinks he might have shot with later, while that mountain-of-a-bouncer can keep those same six dudes from ever getting into the club in the first place. (Note to the six dudes: you’ll always get better results if you roll into the club and up to the bar WITH those two stunning young ladies.)

But the most powerful man within the Las Vegas nightclub scene, the only man who binds all of these different types of people together is… The DJ. Think about. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, hot or not, famous or Pauly Shore… On the dance floor, we are all one under music, united by the beat, with grooving and grinding for all.

Let's Get Social

Picture of Yaniece Thomas
Put it in the books right now, Social House is the best new restaurant in Las Vegas. It’s got the complete package: style, celebrities, atmosphere, a daring drink menu… and most importantly, unbelievable food that dwarfs the four things I just mentioned.

First, let’s hit the faces. Before the A-list celebrities get their VIP on at the best nightclubs in Vegas, they fuel up at Social House inside Treasure Island. Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo always try their best NOT to be photographed together, but the food is so good at Social House, they couldn’t help but get cozy for the cameras. Vegas staples Paris and Nicky Hilton, actor Wilmer Valderrama, rocker Dave Navarro, comedian Damon Wayans, Entourage’s Kevin Dillon… they all can be found dining at Social House at all hours. The owners will say it’s because of the food, which we’ll get to in a sec. But I have my own theory on why the stars love Social House: the layout. Social House is a maze of nooks and crannies where you could be dining 10 feet from Enrique Iglesias and never know it. That intimate layout allows stars to have their privacy, and it allows normal people like you and me the chance to have an intimate, romantic, cozy evening with our significant others without having to shout your sweet-nothings across the table.

Mr. and Mrs. Spa Day

Autumn is now upon us, and the leaves are starting to change here in Las Vegas, and you can smell the… wait, who am I kidding… Leaves don’t change in Vegas. The temperature drops from 110 to 80, and the only way you know it’s fall is by the amount of people putting bets on football games. But this is the time to start thinking about more indoor activities… like going to a spa.

One of the best spas on The Strip is located at The Venetian. “The Canyon Ranch SpaClub” is a 69,000 square foot, two-level health spa and fitness center, and you won’t find any spa bigger than this in North America. Now let’s get one thing straight: men can fully appreciate a spa day as much as they can fully appreciate a romantic comedy. That’s why I am bringing my wife, Adrienne, along for the day to school me on the finer points of spending 12 hours in a robe, slippers and nothing else.

Carlos: Okay, honey, are you ready for our spa day?
Adrienne: Do you think people really believe we’re writing this as we walk into the spa?
Carlos: Theater of the mind, sweetheart.
Adrienne: Do you really think people actually read your blog?
Carlos: That’s a low blow.
Adrienne: Alrighty then, let’s move on.

Women Are from Venus

So is it getting colder where you live? Yeah, the same thing's going on here in Vegas. Instead of 114 degrees during the day, it's now in the low 90's. So even though the leaves are changing all over the country, we've still got perfect pool weather in Sin City.

That being said, allow me to introduce you to the latest fad in pool action on the Strip: the European Style Pool. Do you, uh, follow me? Do you get what I'm sayin' here? I'll spell it out for you if I have to… They're tops-optional pools.

Mandalay Bay's got one. So does The Wynn. Heck, even The Stratosphere is going topless on its 25th floor. But what is the best European Style Pool in Vegas? That would be The Venus Pool at Caesar's Palace.
