AJ Calloway
Correspondent
A New Jersey native, AJ Calloway joined "Extra" as its New York City based correspondent two years ago. Calloway always knew he was destined to be in entertainment. As early as high school, he started producing and promoting parties, as well as, fashion shows and fundraisers for different organizations in which he was involved. By the time he enrolled at Howard University, he had shaped his activities into a business and formed his first promotion company. Calloway continued his marketing and promoting career after college and moved his vision to New York City where he mastered his skills and created some of the city's hottest promotional companies and events.
It was in New York City that BET Network found Calloway. He knew it was fate when they asked him to audition for a co-host position on a new video countdown show based in New York. In August 2000, Calloway landed his dream job and on September 11, 2000, "106 & Park," BET's Top Ten Live aired for the first time: a mix of celebrity guests, live performances and the hottest videos selected by viewers.
After working at BET for five years, Calloway had evolved and knew it was time for a change, so in July 2005, Calloway said his last goodbye to the "106 & Park" audience. He continues to master his craft interviewing the top personalities in the country with his current position as a correspondent for "Extra."Calloway was even bitten by the acting bug. He had a cameo in "Drumline" and he created, produced and starred in his own sitcom pilot for UPN, "The Show With AJ Calloway." The pilot gave him the chance to act alongside Justine Bateman, Kim Coles and Kel Mitchell. Calloway loves and respects acting and is committed to pursuing it further in the future.
