Vote! Should 'Charlie's Angels' Reunite?

It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since "Charlie's Angels" became a TV phenomenon.

Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith

Former castmates Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd recently reminisced with "Extra" about how much they missed their late co-stars, Farrah Fawcett and John Forsythe.

"Yes, we were a big family and it's hard," Smith said. "It just seems like yesterday and now they're gone."

See photos of the late Farrah Fawcett.

The two have also lost touch with their third "Angels" co-star, Kate Jackson. "I haven't seen Kate in ten years," Ladd said. Smith added, "I miss her. She should have been here."

Is there anything coming up for the actresses? "I have a 25th anniversary with Kmart coming up," Smith, 64, explained. "I've designed a line of clothes for 25 years, and now I'm into home needs, towels and sheets and everything."

Meanwhile, Ladd, 58, says she's starting "a little independent film."

Would you want to see a new show starring the former "Angels"? Vote in our poll!

Cheryl Ladd says that she misses Kate Jackson. Cheryl, you’re a WAY BETTER PERSON than I am!!! After reading The Charlie’s Angels Casebook (which I still have) a while back, I lost A LOT of respect for Kate Jackson as a person. To me, she has a split personality or something. So, therefore, I WOULD NOT miss Kate…AT ALL!!! I DO NOT LIKE being around people who have split personalities!!! Period!!! Cheryl, I’ve been such a BIG fan of yours ever since the 1970s. Keep on ROCKIN’ AND ROLLIN’, DARLIN’!!!

Melba, even though it’s been 30 years, Kate Jackson still dislikes Cheryl Ladd. She will not do a reunion with Cheryl Ladd.

Heavenly news CA fans! A long-awaited/dreamed about project is in the works for bff angels: Cheryl/Jaclyn!!!AMEN.(See Extras’ interview on Jaclyns’own website @:www.jaclynsmith.com)
Our prayers have finally been answered and I hope this will be just the first of many projects to follow for these two deserving angels who both honored their full CA contracts back in the day and have always been the only two in favor of all past reunions.Get the word out and please post any details any of you may come across both on the new CA series and their guest appearances and now, any updates on this new endeavor. There truly never will be another popculture phenomenon quite like CA and we original fans won’t let the world forget it!

SGS- Farrah came back as a guestand not Kate because she had to full her contract with Aaron to do so many more shows after she left the series.

To Melba: No, it’s very true according to pg. 97 that the Shelley Hack years or Season 4 were in the top 10 for the first 4 episodes: Love Boat Angels, Angels Go Truckin’, Avenging Angels, and Angels at the Altar (all placed in the top 10). However, when Farrah returned for episode #5 for Fallen Angel, Charlie’s Angels slipped from the Top 10 forever. So, the blame can’t really be on Shelley…maybe if the more talented Kate Jackson was the guest angel (instead of Farrah) for Fallen Angel, Prince and the Angel, or Angel’s Trail, Charlie’s Angels would have never slipped from Top 10 status.

Yeah you do lose credibility when you are condesending, even if you do have the facts straight.I too have seen the articles I think in people magazine(just google it guys) where Cheryl at two different interviews mentioned she was still hurt at the 2006 Grammy snub and that IT WAS Kate who decided she was the outsider,I also have never approved of Kates’ treatment of Cheryl and her manipu;ating and taking advantage of Jaclyns’ friendship to force her to exclude Cheryl thru the years and interfering in their friendship even from CA days(keeping Cheryl the 4th wheel) , but Jaclyn should have been stronger and made it clear all along she has always cared for Cheryl as well and they have kept close….There are better ways of saying things though Angels rule.

So true Charla. Some ppl are rude. Don’t worry about it though. I love all the Angels, and I like the combo of Kate, Jaclyn and Cheryl the best, but I will NOT knock other people who may like the others better. Those people that do have control issues. Thanks for your lovely honest post.

To Angels Rule, you are truly condescending to Kate’s fans. I do not know why you would point out to a poster that you think they might be a Kate fan and then say “Sorry, truth hurts!” We, who have admired Kate Jackson, are certainly not embarrassed to say that we like and admire her. If you prefer any of the other Angels, that is your choice and prerogative and we respect that, but you do not have to be rude to people who are Kate’s fans. I for one take offense, having followed Kate’s career since The Rookies.

sgs— you are only partly right about the ratings. The first few episodes with Shelley Hack cracked the Top 10, but after Episode 5 I believe, the shows started dipping in the ratings, leading up to the last Farrah Fawcett episode, which became the lowest rated episode in the series history to that point (then eclipsed when the show tumbled even farther down in Season 5 with Tanya Roberts). They never recovered after that, so you are looking at some 19 or 20 episodes with Hack that started the downward spiral. Still, the Season 4 ratings were quite respectable in comparison to Season 5, just not comparable to the huge ratings they got during the first 3 seasons. I agree with you that Shelley wrongfully took most of the blame for the declining ratings— they should have had better scripts showcasing all 3 stars together like “Angel Hunt” rather than having individual “Angel” episodes. The strongest asset of the series to that point was the rapport amongst the 3 principal actresses, and the writers failed to integrate Shelley effectively the way they did with Cheryl Ladd. Some say it was because Shelley was not a good actress, but I beg to differ. I of course liked Cheryl Ladd’s integration to the show better, but I did not think Shelley was as bad an actress as they made her out to be. I thought Tanya Roberts was worse. There are 2 very important events in the series’ history that changed the course of the show: Cheryl Ladd’s addition to the show was the only successful replacement of an Angel & kept the show intact after the departure of Farrah Fawcett, then the most popular Angel; and Kate Jackson’s departure in Season 3 became the start of the show’s decline. I know we all have our favorites in the show, and this is in no way my personal endorsement of Cheryl and Kate as my favorites because I have always thought Jaclyn Smith was the ultimate Angel, but Cheryl joining the show and Kate departing impacted the show I think even more than Farrah’s departure.

To Angels Rule— there is nothing factual about a lot of those statements you were referring to. Give us the source and dates, and then we’ll talk. A lot of what was stated were interpretations rather than actual statements made. I have worked with several writers on sourcing out books (not only Angel realted), and have myself done a lot of research on actual interviews, having been a writer and a big fan of the show. You on the other hand seem to use different names and posting the same stuff over and over again. We get it— you think Cheryl and Jaclyn are very close. Good for you and keep thinking that, as that may be the case. Cheryl Ladd, in a snippet of an interview in a documentary about the Angels aired on Fox in 2001 says, (loosely quoting here): “There was a dynamic among the original 3 that I was not privy to. Something happened there and up to this day, I do not completely understand what it was.” She was commenting on the strong bond of the other 3, and perhaps, really referring to Kate Jackson not totally embracing her. As for my being a Kate fan, get it straight—- I am a big Farrah Fawcett fan; consequently, I believe the Farrah-Kate-Jaclyn triumverate was unmatched. I am also a fan of Shelley Hack, and one of the few who thought she was a good fit. When Shelley Hack got fired, People Magazine stated (exact quote), “From the halcyon days of Farrah and Kate, when its ratings share reached a celestial high of 67, the show’s Nielsen altimeter had plunged into the low 30s. Two weeks ago the last-hired Angel, Shelley Hack, became the first fired. “They can say I didn’t work out, but it isn’t true,” she protests. “What happened was a network war. A business decision was made. Change the time slot or bring on some new publicity. How to get publicity? A new Angel hunt. Who is the obvious person to replace? I am—the new kid on the block.”
I have not seen you quote any sources, or provide names of publications and shows were you claim Cheryl Ladd had issues about the 2006 Emmy reunion— why??? Because a statement from her regarding her displeasure about this reunion does not exist. Even if Farrah is my favorite, I admit that CHERYL is a gorgeous, down-to-earth person who seems genuine and nice. You belittle and insult her by making up stories about her supposed issues. And I think you are a big fan of hers. Shame on you.

I have the Charlie’s Angels Casebook. It states that the Shelley Hack introduction 2-parter was no. 1 in the Nielsens, the last time the series appeared in the top spot. Slowly but surely, the ratings kept on dropping. The book states further, “The next 3 episodes all ranked in the Top 10….. from the top 10 to the top 20 , and then down to the 30s”. Obviously, audiences had lost interest in the show as it went on. Farrah’s episodes aired at a time when the show was losing audiences fast. The consensus among TV critics was that you just do not “believe these 3 girls really hang out”, alluding to the less than warm chemistry among the stars as compared to the Kate-Jaclyn-Cheryl; and Farrah-Kate-Jaclyn trios. For the first time in the history of the show, the series ended the season outside the Top 20. Still, not that we know the history and what happened next, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THAT THEY KEPT HACK AND DEVELOPED THE CHEMISTRY AMONG THE 3 STARS, rather than replace her with Tanya Roberts. By the time Roberts was a series regular, the ratings were abysmal. By February 28, 1981, the show finished at #63 out of 65 shows! Had hack been retained, I believe they would have retained at least t Top 30 standing. IMHO.

If you check out ‘Charlie’s Angels: Casebook’ it states that the Shelley Hack years were in the Top 10 UNTIL Farrah returned as a guest star…episode ‘Fallen Angel’ was (ironic) the first major decline of Charlie’s Angels ratings (it finally fell out of the Top 10) and that guest starred Farrah…In fact, months later ‘An Angel’s Trail’ episode #88 with Farrah (again) reappearing with Jaclyn, Cheryl, and Shelley had their lowest ratings ever (slipping to #34). So, I don’t really think Shelley Hack’s made the ratings drop, technically, Farrah’s did. Overall, that year with Shelley Hack was #20, but most of the ratings declined when Farrah guest starred…that’s a fact.

I agree that since Kate didn’t want to be at the TVLand awards honoring Charlie’s Angels, then the glamorous chic Shelley Hack should have been there with Jaclyn and Cheryl. I loved the lovely trio of Jaclyn, Shelley, and Cheryl (along with Bosely). Season 4 of Charlie’s Angels is still my favorite and it’s fabulous on DVD now…Shelley Hack rocks!

Anonymous.(Why anonymous? What are you afraind of by the way?)You should listen to some ofthe actual interviews before you comment because you have no idea what you are talking about. You are defensive because you are probably a K.J. fan.(Truth hurts, sorry).
The statements in these posts are factual.I’ve seen/read these interviews too and had come to preety much the same conclusions. Its’a no-brainer.

Everything stated is from actual statements from The actresses themselves in interviews from reputable magazines(not trash rags)and much less conjesture. I only deal with the facts.Cheryl Ladd stated in early 2008 she had reunited with Jaclyn and that she was learning to forgive people as well as herself as she got older. Some stated Jaclyn wasn’t as close to Cheryl as the others and I was simply pointing out they were dead wrong based on actual statements from the actresses themselves during these interviews.Thats’ all.

Miami7Mentalist, there is no denying Cheryl and Jaclyn are friends. The other person just stated that (based on what has been published and/or said in official interviews in magazines and documentaries) the 3 original Angels were really extremely close up to Farrah’s passing. Re-read the post— no need to argue on points that seem irrelevant. Cheryl and Jaclyn are also close; after all, they worked on the series for 4 years! No need to get defensive about that issue. Also, EXTRA got it wrong— Jaclyn did not lose touch w/ Kate. It is a well-known fact that both Kate and Jaclyn visited Farrah frequently during the latter’s convalescence and that was just last year (2009). So EXTRA, get you facts straight. As for Farrah’s memorial service and funeral, wrong again— there are quite a few pictures of Kate arriving early for Farrah’s service and she was with her teenage son, so Kate was definitely there.

Jaclyn is too much of a lady to say that she would felt like “knocking Kate down.” If you were a real fan of hers, you would know how gracious, polite, humble and down-to-earth this lady is and she would never say that. Those things in that one post sound like all conjecture. LOL! Like this person got into the Angels’ minds and found out what they were really thinking. What a trip! At least, the other poster based his/her post on actual published facts. There was never any publicity either about Jaclyn and Cheryl having a rift due to the 2006 Emmy reunion of the original Angels. Cheryl is a big girl and she can take care of herself— have a little respect for her and her ability to be understanding and accepting. To all who put words in the Angels mouth, get a life! Jaclyn, Cheryl, Kate and Farrah are/were hardworking, successful, determined women and we should all just respect that rather than concocting make-believe stories like you were with these girls 24/7 and knew them really well.

Hey maybe there should be a poll on facebook like there was by her fans for Betty White to star on SNL for the angels to start another Charlies Angels. I know the show would be a success, we love them and we all loved the show.
