Mario Helps Oprah Nix Texting While Driving

"Extra's" host Mario Lopez admits he has texted on his cellphone while driving, but he's now helping Oprah Winfrey in a no texting-while-driving initiative.

Lopez makes an appearance on Oprah's show today to support the national "No Phone Zone Day." Oprah explains, "Texting or talking on your phone while you're driving is as dangerous as driving drunk!"

Mario adds, "This is an important initiative out here in L.A., where everyone practically lives in there car. They turn it into a mobile office."

The "Extra" host tells Oprah he proudly signed the pledge and got all the staff at "Extra" to sign as well. "No one is going to be texting and driving," Lopez announces.

"My biggest hope for the 'No Phone Zone' campaign is that it becomes mandatory," says Oprah. "That you can't have your phone in the car and use it while driving, just as seat belts are mandatory and drunk driving absolutely taboo. I'm hoping this not only becomes law but second nature for all of us. How many more have to die before we take a stand? Let their lives be our light."

I am in 100% support of this

IN CA I NEVER drove while talking on the phone when it was legal

So, Extra! Staff, Mario WHAT IS SIGNING THE PLEDGE WITHOUT A MENTION DRIVING WHILE TALKING WITH CELL PHONES HAS BEEN ILLEGAL IN CA SINCE 7-1-08?

IF Extra! Staff was before this pledge was signed means staff members were breaking the law?

Very easy to pledge when you’re riding in a limo to work.

I have been guilty a few times, but I know I catch myself. If I have to use it…I park it. It helps make all of us more safe.

Super!

Does the spelling error even make a difference. The point is that Mario was a part of the cause to stop talking on the phone as well as texting(?). Who cares about the spelling error. I think so many people have put so much effort into this with Oprah leading the way that we should commend them and not comment about a silly spelling error.

Interesting that Mario admitted to doing it AND saying that a lot of people in L.A. do it. It’s illegal to talk on your cellphone while driving already here in L.A. So Mario just admitted that he constantly breaks the law. Nice!! At least he’s going to stop NOW!!

Nice spelling error…

“Mario adds, “This is an important initiative out here in L.A., where everyone practically lives in there car. They turn it into a mobile office.”

There car? Wouldn’t that be THEIR car? Journalism at its finest.
