'Star Search' Finds Paula Abdul?

Paula Abdul might once again be looking for new singing talent. The former "American Idol" judge is reportedly near to a deal to headline an updated version of "Star Search."

Sources tell Entertainment Weekly that the former Laker Girl could be doing double-duty as host and judge. An ABC rep refused to comment.

The network has been working toward getting Abdul involved in some capacity, with an initial (but failed) attempt to have her join "Dancing with the Stars." It isn't clear whether her potential "Star Search" gig would interfere with her possibly appearing as a judge on former colleague Simon Cowell's forthcoming US version of his UK monster hit, "The X Factor," slated to debut on FOX in the fall of 2011.

"I'm having the best time of my life right now," Abdul said after leaving "American Idol" last year. "I'm getting back to be that creative girl. I wore many hats, choreographer, doing that again, recording still. I'll always be mentoring young talent, but I'm acting, recurring role on 'Drop Dead Diva,' producing a new TV shows. I'm excited."

The original "Star Search" premiered in 1983 with host Ed McMahon, and was popular through the '80s and '90s. An attempt by CBS to revive it in 2003 with host Arsenio Hall didn't work out and the show was cancelled in 2004.

Who knew that every “limelight” must be shared with Simon? In the event you haven’t followed the numbers game, American Idol is not a “number one” show? It’s numbers have been dwindling for some time now… Why else would Simon himself be leaving it?

And so far as Paula (or anyone else) bringing back Star Search, you’d be surprised the audience that could draw,.. if produced in an exciting manner!

For the record NO ONE on American Idol, from the judges to the talent are “stars” by any right… most of them are rather flavors of the month in todays too fast paced world.

Paula left the Number One show on television, only to end up on yet another desperate revival of its pitifully outdated predecessor? Bad move on every count. Not only has every attempt to resurrect Star Search failed, Paula risks the possibility of being barred from joining Simon on X Factor, which is her ticket back to the limelight.
