Farrah Fawcett Oscar Snub Was Not Oversight

While the Academy has apologized for omitting Farrah Fawcett from the Oscar "In Memoriam" sequence, the decision was intentional.

The Academy's Bruce Davis, responsible for the tribute, said, "There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all. They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."

Davis, however, stands by his decision to leave the "Charlie's Angels" star out, saying she was a television actress. He had considered including her, but felt her "remarkable television work" should be appropriately honored at the TV Academy's Emmy Awards.

Tatum O'Neal, daughter of Fawcett's long-time companion Ryan O'Neal, said in a statement, "On behalf of myself, my father Ryan O'Neal and my entire family, we are deeply saddened that a truly beautiful and talented actress Farrah Fawcett was not included in the memorial montage during the 82nd Academy Awards. We are bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons. Beautiful, talented Farrah will never be forgotten by her family and amazing fans."

Fawcett passed away last June at age 62 after a very public battle against cancer.

I simply do not understand the concern. What did she do on or for the big screen? Now. When it comes to TV it is an ENTIRELY different story. She ruled the tv!!!!!! and she was an absolutely beautiful woman who every young woman emulated. kind, sexy, kind, gentle woman.

I think they could of time managed thier time better with speaches and honnored more people like Farrah and Bea Aurther then to leave out Farrah Fawcett is inexcuseable. They honnered Michael Jackson and what more did he do movie wise than Farrah or Bea Auther. It is a discrassful BLOT on the Oscar’s and fan’s don’t forget!

I loved Farrah on Charlies Angels but she was way more than that!…Farrah was an awesome actress. Have you seen “The Buring Bed”? If not, you really need to see this outstanding performance of real life issues. She nailed it!! She did her research and nailed it! And there were so many movies after that. She wanted to be more than a pretty face and body and she was….

I watched Extra tonight and heard Ryan ONeal was mad about Farrah Fawcett not being mentioned at the Academy Awards, shame on the Academy. She was a TV Star and a movie star. But yet they put up Michael Jackson. What is this world coming too,he was addicted to drugs but they put him on a pedistal. Farrah Fawcett was put on the back burner when she died and now with the Academy.SHAME ON THE ACADEMY

This is the hypocrisy, elitism, and blatant callousness that comes with the conceit of power and authority to declare who and what is important and relevant. They are the arbiters of truth? Observe and relish in the Academy and their self-importance puffery.

How many movies was Michael Jackson in? They also left out Bea Arthur, who starred in MANY films..

Bruce, Are you out of your mind? Yes, Farrah was more known for her TV roles, but she did have 16 feature films and totally should have been included. Farrah fought to break away from the pretty girl look and took on some gusty roles. It’s really a shame that “You” couldn’t see Farrah Fawcett the Actress! I would ask you this, in the end of the video clip you re-showed people that you had already shown, why not put what precious time you had and fill it with someone who should of been shown.
