'Deadliest Catch's' Captain Phil Harris dies

Discovery Channel announced the death of Phil Harris on Tuesday evening. Harris was the captain of the crab fishing vessel Cornelia Maria on "Deadliest Catch."

He suffered a stroke Jan. 30 while in port off-loading at St. Paul Island in Alaska.

"He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him," the network said in a statement. "We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil's every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew."

The captain's sons also released released a statement, saying, "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad -- Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

So sorry to hear the news. Please Father above place your calming hand on Phil’s crew, his family and all those who loved him. Let them know they are not alone. To his boy’s: your father will be missed but carry on in his memory and make him proud. I love the show and even though we never meet many of you we feel as if you have become a part of our own families..God Bless and guide those on the CM and give her the best season ever in Phil’s honor…

So sorry to hear of Captain Phil’s passing. He was an important part of the show, of which I so appreciate the hard, hard work fisherman do. It was a shock to hear that Captain Phil Harris was died.
Here in the Netherlands our thoughts are with Josh ,Jake their family,and the Crew of the Cornelia Marie.

My husband and I watched the every episode. It broke our hearts knowing that Phil Harris passed away. Out thought and our prayers will be with Josh, Jake, and the Cornelia Marie Crew.

phi was not only a star on t.v but also a star in all the ports in alaska that they delivered too.he had a great sense of humor that you could not but love, our prayers and blessing go out to the family,friends,locals,and fans of the f/v cornelia marie, it was always nice to see the boat and crew in kodiak. mahalo for the memories phil, fish on!

I know that your sons will see that your legacy lives on and that you were a great dad..
