'New Moon' Director Not Surprised by Bad Reviews

New Moon

"New Moon" director Chris Weitz says he's not shocked the vampire flick has been slammed by critics.

"Nothing surprises me in terms of reviews," Weitz tells Entertainment Weekly. "Having been a reviewer myself, there are only two ways to spin this story. You can either be the one guy who says this is a great movie, or more likely, take a more jaundiced view of the whole thing."

He goes on, "And given the media blitz that has accompanied 'New Moon,' it's rather unsurprising. I do wish there was more appreciation for cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe. I think he's a genius, and I think he made something beautiful."

Weitz says he'd be more upset if the flick -- which has made $285 million since opening Nov. 20 -- was rebuffed by moviegoers.

"If one could imagine their biggest fears, it would be complete rejection of the movie by the fans," Weitz says. "What I've realized over the last week is I won't necessarily get good reviews for this movie. Having swallowed that, this was made for the fans, and if you don't get it, then you don't get it."

I thought the ovie was awesome. Probably my most favourite movie of all time. I cant believe you people write all theese disrespectful commetns as if you dont like it. If you dont like it dont watch it or read things about and even then, dont write your horrible comments on stuff. The twilight saga is amazing. I love it.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson did an amazing job.
Cant wait for the next two movies. I am ALMOST dieing waiting to see the,.
GOOD JOB.

I love the books- and I really did enjoy the Twilight movie. Twilight had this engaging feel to it, and it came across very soft and fitting- even though it did stray from the book (as most movies do)

That being said, I did not enjoy the New Moon movie. I thought the director did a choppy job. The lines were short and it felt like you were watching a bad play- end scene…begin scene…end scene…

1.) I agree with whomeve said it above- the Cullens contacts made them look devious and crazy.
2.) Bellas friend, Mike, what was with his tan? He looks really bad in the entire movie! (Bad make up!)
3.) The music was off- in Twilight the music was amazing. It fit and was had this very enchanting feel. New moon had some great classical tunes in the background but they just felt wrong. OVerall- would not buy that soundtrack.
4.) I felt like the acting was too raw and untalented. yes- the main actors did fine but it’s like they half-a**ed it, and the new actors in the pack… it just had this really amateur feeling to the whole thing.
5.) I didn’t mind all the deviating from the book but why on earth did he make it so dang choppy? I hated that. It breezed right along as if the director felt like he ‘had’ to make this movie to get on to the next which, god only hopes, will come out better on the big screen.
6.) I feltl ike New Moon didn’t have that engaging feeling. I know it’s not a soft movie like Twilight, and I understand that it’s a transitional story line, but I just didn’t have that feeling to turn around and watch it again. Maybe when it comes on DVD I will like it better because maybe there was just too much excitement and wonder watching it in the theatre.

Now don’t hate- I will see all the movies regardless. When you have such a strong fan base like Twilight- you will make money regardless of how you slaughter the movie. Hopefully they do better on the next one.

I really thought this movie was a landslide better than Twilight. Many of the fans from the series of books were disappointed in the first movie and really disliked it, including myself. New Moon was such a relief to what Twilght was and hopefully the next director for Eclipse achieves something equal or better to that of New Moon.

Seriously, they could have had the two main characters smearing poo all over each other and the die hard fans would have said it’s the best thing they’ve ever seen. As for me, having not read any of the books and not seen the first movie (and being a near 30 year old male!), I thought it was the most boring movie I have probably ever seen. Nothing made sense, the acting was terrible and the dialogue was uninspiring. I’m not knocking the vampire stuff. Actually to me, this movie had very little reference to the blood suckers. I actually really enjoy the show True Blood because it’s interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This movie had me checking my watch every 30 seconds to see how long we had to go and i was possibly minutes away from gouging my eyes out with my slurpee straw. I’ll probably be howled down by all you fans, but if ever there was a case of a movie not living up to the hype, this is a perfect example.

i thought chris weitz made an amazing movie. the entire crew who made this movie deserves a huge applause. much better than twilight in regards to staying to the actual story. :D
i loved it and definitely will be seeing it again as i know many other people will.

GOOD JOB CHRIS WEITZ AND CREW! i hope they do breaking dawn, it’d be fantastic. :D

who cares about professional critics, it’s the fans who absolutely love the movie that matters.

I loved New Moon. I cannot wait for Eclipse. My one and only complaint would be, I wish they hadn’t changed the Cullen’s contact lenses. I found them very distracting. I preferred the ones in Twilight. I am going to go see it again this weekend.

Well said. I’m tired of people who hate this movie because they don’t get it. These movies are fan driven, and they are made for us.

Vampire movies come in different lights, one thing for certain they deal with the subnormal nature of life itself, and the environment and its technical rhythms.
Humans after finding that such movies affect the inner mind heavily, it sometimes puts people in thought of what life may bring from the logical perspective when it comes to humans being their very own actual identity berfor eand after dead. so the moral examination is often the inner pop up from behind the scenes in people’s real life here and now.
I think subnormal thinking awakens people in a more broad sense about being the human spirit more awake than just in instinct. So when will be the day that humans find enough reason to pick up their true nature on their feet and make something better out of themselves in the real world.
