I had the procedure two years ago. The TV show made it look easy, and the test itself is. The tough part is the prep, which my doctor required; just like the prep for a colonoscopy! My insurance covered most of the procedure costs, but as Shannon H mentioned, other tests were required first before they would authorize it.
I think that the Capsule Endoscopy procedure is good for patients because it is convenient and painless. It is a good diagnostic tool that can visualize certain areas of the small bowel that a typical EGD and Colonoscopy procedure can not.
I also work at a gastroenterologist office out in California and we have no problems billing insurance companies for the Esophageal or Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy procedures.
I think Mario is setting a great example by doing this.
I am looking for the endoscopy capsule at medical offices in South Jersey. Is there anyone who already have this procedure?
Thanks
I work at a gastroenterologist’s office and we do the capsule endoscopies at our office. Yes it’s a great way to detect problems that can’t be seen by an egd or colonoscopy, but it’s very difficult to actually get it approved or paid by the insurance companies. There are certain tests that need to be done first and certain diagnosis codes that we can use for it. Frustrating, but a great test.

I found a doctor in Hightstown, NJ. Dr. Michael Lupovici.
