'Glee' Cast Hopes to Cover Michael Jackson

The cast of "Glee" has covered hits from artists such as Christina Aguilera and Journey -- and now they've set their sights on the King of Pop.

"Michael Jackson would be unreal," Kevin McHale, who plays wheelchair-bound Artie Abrams, tells "Extra" of covering new artists. "Any Michael Jackson song... I would be fascinated to see our 'Glee-ified' Michael Jackson song."

Co-star Cory Monteith, who plays football player Finn Hudson, agrees -- and thinks it's the perfect way to pay respect to Jackson, who died in June 2009. "It's such a great time to pay homage to such a brilliant artist."

Choosing a Jackson song to cover may seem daunting, but Monteith, 27, already has one in mind.

"I think it should be 'Thriller,' but a dream sequence," Cory says, "and Artie is dreaming and he busts out of the chair and tears up the dance floor." McHale, 21, chimes in, "All I want is the short pants, white socks and loafers -- that's what I wear anyway."

Rumors have been circulating that Monteith has been cozying up to Lea Michele, who plays Glee club star Rachel Berry -- but the actor is remaining mum on the nature of their relationship.

"What rumors?" Cory says when asked about the romance whispers. "It's incredible -- as soon as people get on television, rumors pop up." When pressed about being single, Monteith turned and asked McHale, "Are you single?" McHale responded, "I'm single if you're single."

"Glee" remains Cory and Kevin's main focus, but the actors have big aspirations for the future -- including a jump to the silver screen and recording albums.

"I really want to do movies if I can...I'd love to record an album when the time is right, and I figure out what exactly I want to do, because I'm still really new at this," Cory says. Kevin adds, "Music, movies, whatever -- when the time is right. Right now, its kind of 'Glee' world. We're happy -- we go back filming soon."

Cory agrees. "It's 'Glee' time."

THEY REALLY NEED TO HAVE A SPECIAL MJ EPISODE!! It’s been a whole year now and they’ve already done lady gaga, madonna and now britney spears? I MEAN COME ON!! This is the KING OF POP we’re talking about here!! If they do Man In The Mirror, OMG that will be an episode NO ONE will ever forget!

THEY NEED TO DO AN ENTIRE MICHAEL JACKSON EPISODE!!!!!! He is the KING OF POP and we lost him this last year. There are TOO MANY AMAZING MJ songs to pick just one. Meaning an entire episode is in store. Madonna got one, Lady GaGa got one, and both of them are very deserving of one, and now there is a Britney Spears episode? And still not one for the KING OF POP. THE PUBLIC WANTS A MICHAEL JACKSON EPISODE!!!!!

I think they should do all the ones mentioned above…along with “Black or Whitee” :) It would be sooo amazing…i love Glee so much and i know they would tribute the King of Pop in a way he’d be proud of.

I think they should do a more recent one, b/c a lot of people don’t know of them and they are missing out!

Songs like Speechless or Whatever Happens from Invincible are amazing! Actually all the songs on there are. It would be a hard choice but they should def do a whole ep. on him!

They need to NOT cover a Michael Jackson song, in my opinion. MJ songs have to have drive and emotion behind them, which something they lack as singers.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they can’t sing. In fact, they are very good singers, but they lack massively when it comes to emotion, they sing a bit dead.

If they HAD to do one, and ONLY ONE, they should do ABC, because they might be able to manage it.

Dude…if they did a whole episode of Madonna…and right now I’m watching one all on Lady Gaga…there should be NO problem with doing a whole episode of Michael Jackson. Not just one song! Come on people! Omg…that would be the BEST episode…EVER. I HOPE THEY DOOOO!!!!!!!

if not… something like Bad, Man in the Mirror or Black and white… to be honest all of em just do a weeks worth of michael jackson songs lol because no one can beat his music ! x

My obsession with his songs (ALL OF THEM) makes it hard to decide… I Want You Back would be really fun though. I think Will You Be There, with Mercedes in the lead just like if Jennifer Hudson had used her regular voice while singing it during the memorial. I mean… if they want to have one lead singer and the rest background then it’s a totally different thing, but if they want a ton of solos then maybe Can You Feel It… or If You Don’t Love Me maybe. Love Never Felt So Good could be good, too… depending on what kind of solos they do. I personally think they should do like 5 of his songs, but I bet they can’t. Maybe Man In the Mirror, but I think it’s good to spread awareness of other songs that aren’t his classics so that people can realize how good his songs are and be obsessed with the Glee version! I know they’ve almost already done one of his when they did Smile, but that’s technically Charlie Chaplin.

They should do “I’ll Be There” or “ABC” even though technically they are Jackson 5 songs, I personally like them. If not those songs, “The Way You Make Me Feel” would be my other choice. Thriller might be the song that they want to do, but some people might not accept it because it might be considered “untouchable.” It was already controversial when artists re-recorded “We Are The World.”
