Chris Brown about Rihanna: 'Details Should Remain Private'

Rihanna opened up to Diane Sawyer about the night Chris Brown beat her and MTV gave Brown the opportunity to respond.

"While I respect Rihanna's right to discuss the specific events of February 8th, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us," the R&B star said in a statement to MTV.

"I do appreciate her support," he added, "and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well.

"Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God."

The 20-year-old sat down with MTV for an interview on Monday and he didn't go into detail about the attack, but Brown said he hopes young people will be able to learn for his mistakes. "Get somebody that can tell you to handle your situations or talk to you about how to go about it."

On "20/20," Rihanna told Sawyer about the attack and how Brown had "no soul in his eyes." The singer also said she watched Brown's apology video online and it looked like he was reading from a teleprompter.

Chris Brown is a punk! He clearly is more concerned about his career. He still doesn’t get the gravity of his physical attack on the woman he claimed to love. HE’s a batterer. Period.

great job Chris , I admired that you could have spoke negative about Rihanna but you have not from day one,and for that you are showing that you have matured an taking responsibilty for your action ,unlike Rihanna who claim no fault just a victim , which nobody should hit male or female, she has some maturing to do herself
