Adam Lambert: 'Too Bad' GMA Canceled on Me

Adam Lambert is taking the high road after his "Good Morning America" performance was canceled.

"Obviously I respect their decision. They gotta do what they gotta do," the "American Idol" runner-up said on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday.

ABC cited Lambert's "controversial American Music Awards performance" -- in which the singer kissed a male band member and simulated oral sex -- as the reason behind nixing his appearance.

Lambert went on, "Obviously it's too bad. I think there were a lot of fans that were excited to see me here in New York tomorrow, so I think that's probably kind of disappointing for them, and I feel bad about that."

"But I don't feel like I owe anyone an apology for anything," he went on. "I performed. It was late-night TV. I did something that female performers have been doing for years. It's just the fact that I'm me, and it's a little different for people. It's really not that big of a deal."

Lambert points out that other performers pulled controversial moves on the show as well. He says Rihanna appeared on-stage with guns, Eminem rapped about rape, Janet Jackson grabbed her crotch and Lady Gaga smashed whiskey bottles on a piano.

But he reasons that ABC "probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. And they have to do what they have to do. I don't necessarily agree with it."

As for parents who complained, Lambert -- who will perform on the CBS "Early Show" Wednesday morning -- said he's "not a baby-sitter. I'm a performer!"

In the end, "this is not that big of a deal. I think a mountain has been made out of a molehill... it got a little sexual. It wasn't meant to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm a sexual person."

I loved to see Adam perform…that is…as in sing! He has the right to do as he pleases…I have the right to not buy anything that has his music on it…and well..since the powers that be do not have any control over him, I just won’t watch. So…in a minute…I went from a fan..to absolutely not interested. So…one fan lost…that won’t make much of a difference in your world…I’m glad I am just not a member of “your” world!

While Adams performance was not my cup of tea; I support his right to perform whatever he decides. I am old enough to remember another performer getting censored from television; his name was Elvis. Shame on ABC for taking a stand to discriminate and not give him a chance to show everyone how talented he really is vocally.

Adam needs to slow down.In his efforts to do something spectacular he just went overboard and did something that was too over the top and I must say too disgusting. It’s refreshing to know that there are others out there with taste, too.

I WATCHED ADAM LAMBERT’S PERFORMANCE, AND I LOVED IT. IT WAS AWSOME, ENERGETIC, AND PURE FUN. I LOVED THE KISS AT THE END AND WISHED IT HAD LASTED LONGER. HE’S ADORABLE, AND VERY INTERESTING. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SEEING ONLY WOMEN PERFORMING LIKE THIS, AND THAT SEEMS TO BE JUST FINE, BUT IF A MAN DOES IT, OH MY GOD. All I have to say yes other’s have done the same. But I think we were all excited that he was going to do something amazing and I mean just out the world and he did not….. should have won AI and but did not and still really sad about….
But ok someone needs to let Adam know he needs to act, do, sing or something the way he was on AL…. Also Adam we don’t care what you do but BE what you know you can be and enjoy, love and respect it….

Why aren’t people getting the point here? It is NOT just the kiss with another guy. Come on you ignorant idiots, grow up!! Adam’s act as a WHOLE was repulsive, disgusting and in no way “sexy” as Adam explains it. You can NOT compare what Adam did to Brittany and Madonna’s kiss a few years ago. It’s not just about his kiss, it is the act as a whole and was completely inappropriate!! There is hardly any double standard going on. You can do sexy and entertaining and not make vulgar, inappropriate gestures.

I have to say I was quite disappointed in AMA for allowing Adam to perform in such a manner in the first place. If that’s what Adam wants to do..ok but not on National TV where the audience is mixed. We have watch the AMA every year and felt violated when they allowed it to happen. I am an adult and was quite offended by the show. Not sending a great message to our youth who have anticipated his new album. No longer a fan..my choice. I am glad to hear GMA is also making a good choice.

what’s happening to america? first they love those vampires sooo much now its ok for them that adam did that thing on ama but you know there’ always an excuse for that it’s either they will say it’s an art or it’s normal thing to do but the truth is they just want to be popular or be different from other performers and even we change the channel you cannot find a descent show anymore even a cartoon well talking about money.

Like many others, I was a fan of Adam’s on AI and I thought he should have won. However, after waiting all evening for him to appear I was truly upset on his performance.I understand his wanting to do his own thing but I don’t feel doing it on an awards show like the AMA’s was the place to do it.
I being an ex performer myself he should have thought ahead on what this kind of performance would do to his future in this business. NOT GOOD. He lost a lot of fans last Sunday night and he will never be good enough to get them back now. Adam you took a chance and you bombed. I hate saying that but it is the truth. YOu would have won over the Pope if you had sung any of the songs you sang on AI. Take your pick, this time you sure picked wrong!!
I was ready to buy your CD first thing but have decided to save my money. So Sad….

I am so glad that the American public is seeing what this guy is all about. Those who don’t follow via the internet would be shocked at the statements he has made in interviews! American Idol should hang their head in shame! I don’t blame GMA one bit for cancelling his appearance, I wonder if he tweeted to them the pic of him giving the middle finger after his performance???

I was the first one to vote for Adam on Am. Idol. But now after this act I feel he not some one I would pay to go see. Guess I really didn’t know his style at all. And if this is it, it is not for me.

if I wanted my kids to see porn I would show them porn I don’t think its appropiate for men women whoever to do that on a show children watch - it is no right and who is he to decide what my kids see!
