VOTE: Was Balloon Boy a Hoax?

Falcon Heene was believed to be trapped inside a homemade balloon aircraft, but when it landed, the boy was nowhere to be found. Later, the 6-year-old was found in the attic of his family's garage. On Friday, Falcon threw up on live television. Could this all be a hoax?

The Heene family again sparked controversy in an interview on Thursday's "Larry King Live." Falcon said he had heard his family calling his name. Then he told his parents, "You had said that we did this for a show."

On Friday, The family appeared on the "Today Show," where young Falcon vomited and dad Richard continued to answer Meredith Vieira's questions. "Was this a hoax or a publicity stunt?" Vieira asked.

Richard answered, "Absolutely not. Absolutely not, and now I'm starting to get a little ticked-off because I'm repetitively getting asked this in the last couple of interviews."

"Extra" wants to know -- Do you think the Heenes planned the whole thing?

I understand that most people see this as a cheep stunt. Hold on a minute. Here’s a dad who at least DOES things with his kids(something most boys only dream of while Dad slaves away in some dry business office) So he yells a bit when things go wrong—who doesn’t? I’m a christian, but to me the level of shouting actually seemed mild for the circumstances. Then—if he had any doubt whether the kid was inside—and DIDN’T immediately call for help, what kind of idiot would that make him. Better safe than sorry. I’m a parent of four, and the dynamics of a family is that kids will say and do the unexpected. If I couldn’t locate my kid and an unguided container he could be in starts floating off while his brother says “I think he’s in it” sorry guys, but that’s time to panic—yell for help—Maybe its a stunt, but the guy looks really embarrassed to me. He’s just been told that hundreds of people were watching—only to find the kid was hiding all along…I really think the boy was saying that showing how he got in the attic was part of the news “show”.
One more thing. I was one of those kids who wants to be alone if there’s conflict and has a “nervous stomach”. The only thing that would have made me hide for hours and then barf would be conflict in the family that I felt was my fault. No amount of lying or showmanship from my parents could have done it.
Hey—then again—has he had his flu shot??

Falcon is very obviously physically distressed at hearing his father lie about the balloon incident. Mr. Heene is a poor excuse for a father when he uses his child to get publicity. He peddled his family on Wife Swap and is now shopping around for a new reality show on TV.

Clearly a hoax , the ballon would be hard pressed to lift 10 lbs. let alone a 6 year old and how would a cardboard box support the weight . Very disfunctional family at the very least .

Pathetic - the guy is avoiding even looking into the camera. When asked what he was thinking, he doesn’t know, because he knew the kid was OK. He had to try to make up an answer that would sound real. Phony bunch of hooey! I hope they are charged and that their kids are sent to live with sane people. He probably beats them. He’s deranged.

This has hoax written all over it. How do parents not find their own child, in their own house, hiding in his favorite hiding place? Wouldn’t that be the FIRST place you would check? Why call a news station first? To ask to use their helicopter? Don’t both police and hospitals have helicopters? Both of which could be easily ascertained simply by calling 911? Why wouldn’t the parents have locked something like that up? Not just have it tethered down in the back yard. Why is there no footage of the boy actually getting into the craft? Why does filming only begin after he’s been in it and the thing takes off? I think it’s very suspect when the father kicks the box and yells at his wife, all the while his son is jetting off into the Stratosphere? I mean they didn’t try very hard did they? No one was screaming hysterically. Why did keep filming? The boy (who told) didn’t even seem upset when he told his dad his brother was in the balloon, I know he’s young but even a child is able to suss out what a desperate situation it was. Also, why was the video edited? What would be the need for that? The father is the master mind behind this whole thing. The wife seem to be timid and dutiful, like she’d go along with any lunatic plan he had. She also lets him do all the talking. This is probably a good reminded for all of us not to get sucked into the cult of (public) personality, and maybe Hollywood will think twice about making and glamorizing people who are famous for being infamous.

Do you people have kids? Of course it was not a hoax. I think when Falcon said it was for a show he meant him & his brothers did this “for a show”. Kids do that kind of stuff. They will be mischevious. Everyone is blowing this way out of proportion. Do you have any idea the consequences this is having on this family right now because everyone seems to want to point an accussing finger. But the story is more interesting if it was a hoax right? The media is hurting this family right now & it simply is not right. This family went through a tramatic experience. Everyone needs to leave them alone & stop trying to turn this into something it is not. I’m appauled that so many would point an accussing finger.

This whole story is not worthwhile.

It should have been obvious to reporters that the balloon is not big enough to lift a child.

It’s a simple calculation and it doesn’t work.

It was a Hoax.. in their video when they first let the balloon go, you can see they knew their son wasn’t in the balloon, if they did wouldn’t be normal to run after the balloon jumping trying to reach for the rope. The rope looked reachable to stop if they were really concern about their son.

It was definately a hoax. How could the kid have slipped inside the balloon? I didn’t see any area where he could have gotten in the balloon. If he was inside with only helium, he would have died!

Have you seen the tape of the interview? The father is a TERRIBLE actor! He was so stilted and then just went dead when the kid said he told him not to answer because it was for the show…out of the mouths of babes, alright…c’mon…the first thing I thought was the kid wasn’t in the balloon…and listen to the 911 call; mom needs acting lessons, too!

Yes, it was a hoax. When he “realized” the spacecraft was not tied down, His reaction couln’t have been more fake, jumping around like a 2yr old having a tantrum, poor acting.

I’m no psychologist, but did the authorities not notice this father’s demeanor when being questioned on the Larry King show at all? First, when he asked Falcon if he heard them yelling for him and the child responded yes, the father looks surprised and says “you did?” The mother had a similar reaction. Don’t you think that they would have already asked this kid that question hours before? It was clear to me right then and there that the questioning was going into uncomfortable territory for these two parents. Their responses were so unnatural, I was uncomfortable. Next, when Falcon made the comment about doing it for the show, the mother and father both had EXTREMELY questionable reactions. And then, if that wasn’t enough, when they were asked again later, the father couldn’t even bring himself to ask the kid at first to repeat what he said, then when he finally did, he pretended he didn’t remember the question. Then to back pedal, he gets upset and defensive. He was stuttering and stammering, clearly caught in the headlights! Please Coloradians, get your authorities to check into this further. These dirt bags owe you a lot of money!

i think it was all planned.. they should have called 911 as soon as it happened.. the way the father got ugly last night on larry king.. that was so uncalled for.. they just asked a simple question and once again the father blew up like he did all the time on the show wife swap when they were on there.. they need to discipline there kids and teach them some valuable lessons.. hopefully everything will work out in the best interest of the kids..

Absolutely a farce! As it is, the authorities say they cannot press charges because they need facts. FACT is they did not responsibly tether down their balloon. Work with that illegal FACT. OH please! Not one tether?

Boy or no boy in the balloon, they could have caused a plane crash with their balloon floating uncontrollably in air space.

1, 2, 3 … first call the FAA, then call News 9 TV … then you call 911? Seems out of order to me! Does it to you?

And, I wouldn’t be ordering a pizza or staying home while my child was floating the skies! Nothing could stop me from being out there and on the scene as the first face and person to see and hug my child!

And look carefully at the interview … the mom is trying to nod her way to coercing her son into a different answer.

Dad and mom need to give up the spotlight! We were tired of them on their appearance(s)on Wife Swap … all drama. Their children should be taken away from them … they are totally responsible and negligent in their care and parenting.

Put them in jail and make they pay all the expenses!!!!
