'Mermaid Girl' Shiloh Pepin Dies

Shiloh Pepin, a girl born with a rare condition often called Mermaid Syndrome, has died. Pepin appeared on Oprah and on TLC. She was 10 years old.

The AP reports Maine Medical Center spokesman John Lamb said Shiloh died at the hospital Friday afternoon.  She had been hospitalized in critical condition since last week.

Shiloh was born with sirenomelia, a condition where her legs were fused from the waist down. The condition is about as rare as conjoined twins and is usually fatal within a day or two of birth.

Last month, Shiloh sat down with Oprah and said she didn't mind being called "mermaid girl" and she had no interest in getting her legs separated.

shame the adorable lil gal, she was such a happy one. its funny how us human beings love complaning all the time, look at her, even if she was the way she was she still was jolly…we should do the same, life is too short to be all sad and gloomy, enjoy it while it lasts, just like shiloh….

oh please…you are so ignorant…to kill a child to live as you wish is horrible…maybe if you feel so strongly in abortion you should have been aborted yourself.

Oh, really Ge? Maybe you should live the life that she did, I wonder how much you would enjoy it!! I think you would wish a million times that you’ve never been born at all. Don’t you understand it? Of course you love your sick child too! But when you have the chance to save her from the suffering, DO IT!!! Otherwise, you’re a cruel, dumb, terrible person.
Even her mother admitted, that she may made a HUGE mistake when she didn’t abort her.

You are a horrible person Mooney. You don’t abort every child who is medically disabled. I bet if you asked Shiloh, she would have been happy to have lived the life she did. People like you make me sick. Killing a child because it isn’t “normal” is absolutely disgusting. A short life lived, is better than not living at all.

Her parents had the chanche to abort her when they were told that their daughter would be sick, but nooo they decided to put her through all this suffer!!! Her parents are terrible people who should be in jail!!!

Rest in peace, little girl!

I was so saddened to hear of Shilohs Death. I followed her story and thought she gave so much hope to many ill children. She taught them how to overcome adversity. God Bless her and keep her by his side, and i know she lives on in the hearts of her parents always.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this. I was following her story on TLC and Oprah and had no idea she had passed until now. My deepest sympathies go out to her family and friends. She had such a lively, kind and positive attitude and spirit. We can all learn from her when the little things get us down- things could always be worse. God Bless
