Dave Letterman is no stranger to controversy -- he's had to deal with stalkers, kidnappers and now an extortionist!

Letterman's admirers are applauding the host for revealing embarrassing details about liaisons with staff members as he explained the extortion plot. Drew Barrymore sent Dave well wishes on "Today" this morning, saying, "I wish them the best because that's an unfortunate situation."

Today, Letterman's accused extortionist, Joe Halderman, was indicted on one count of first-degree grand larceny, to which he pled not guilty. His bail has been set at $200,000.

Did u ever stop to think that those employees or staffers came on to him?
He is not an old man. just more mature. Old is after 65 and u can’t see , hear, walk or anything. that’s old. He is not disgusting. He was single then and available. People are too judgemental.

David Letterman is not the kind of guy that needs to make someone comply to anything just to keep their job. Get real. He’s a great guy and any woman would want to be with him. He is not a stupid man nor would he ever enjoy making someone comply just to keep their job. Nonsense.

First of all , he’s human. His wife is not going to give him up over this nonsense. She has a child with him and for pete’s sake he’s David Letterman. He married her after all this relationship nonsense was over. people need to move on. No one is perfect.

What are you really to do in those type of situations anyways? Give in or fight back? I actually liked the way he handled himself in that type of situations. After all this is a very cruel world we live in and tend to loose sight of what is right and wrong and even celebs loose sight of what is right and what is wrong. But messing up just makes us human and we learn from our mistakes. I don’t really what he did. It’s not going to stop me from watching the show.

The results of this poll are amazing. I thought this on-air confession was positively creepy, just like him. It was all about damage control, and putting his weird spin on it. Oh, what a victim he is. Please! Someone wants to hurt poor Dave.

David Letterman has proven to be a dirty old man. How disgusting! I quit watching! The staffers he approached could not turn him down and risk losing their jobs. Sleasy!! that equal on the job harrassment! Celebrities are not exempt from judgement by fans. America has loses everytime celebrity lifestyles are revealed to the public.

David Letterman’s actions lack integrity, this situation even came out after he had bashed Sarah Palin’s family with anger. I have no respect for a guy who was probably having sex with his fellow employees during his lashing out at the Palin’s.

I think Dave handled this situation very well. There is sex & scandal all over the world, it is just unfortunate that Dave’s business was put out there for the world to see, but I really do not think he did anything wrong. And he handled it very smart & professionally. I hardly watch the show to be honest, I’m just a 23 year old girl and even I can see that this should not be as big of a deal as some are making it. We all need to leave Dave alone. NOTHING WRONG WITH GETTIN SOME ASS! :-)
