Help Mario Find a Puppy!

"Extra" is proud to announce an exciting new five-month campaign to find host Mario Lopez a new dog in "Mario's Great Puppy Hunt!"

"I've been thinking about adopting a dog for many years now," says Mario. "Even though I have a very busy schedule I feel now is definitely the right time to finally get a dog. I'm really excited about all the help that I will get through this campaign at 'Extra' to make the right choice."

For the next five months "Extra" will follow Mario's journey and will enlist the help of many pet organizations, companies, Extra Friends, celebrity guests, experts and many others. Learn how you can get involved!

"Mario has been talking about wanting to get a dog, and when he mentioned that he would need some help, we thought this would be a fun and entertaining way to incorporate into the show," says "Extra" Senior Supervising Producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey.

"Mario's Great Puppy Hunt" will be featured on "Extra" on a regular basis with a wide-variety of entertaining and informative segments including; "Dog For Hire," "Pet Mantourage," "Doggie Undercover," "Mario Look A-Like" (does your pet look like Mario? Upload your pic!) and "Pet Fan Cam" (fans will submit photos of their dog as suggestions for the type of dog Mario should get).

Plus, you can give Mario suggestions directly on Facebook, Tweet your choices on Twitter and chat with Extra Friends in the community.

Mario will also participate in various dog and animal-related events across the country over the next few months -- and the most exciting event he'll be hosting is the Westminster Dog Show in New York City in February 2010! "Mario's Great Puppy Hunt" will culminate at this event as he will have searched the country and talked to hundreds of people to make his final puppy decision.

Mario -
The dog I see you with is a Weimaraner. I used to have labs until I discovered this breed. They have hearts of gold, extremely athletic and are great companions. I have bred them for the last four years and absolutely love them. They have gray sleek coats, are considered a large dog and have bright green eyes. There are rescues dedicated to this breed so you can still adopt. Good luck in your search!

Love the show and wish someone would do da show on woman and colon cancer. The docs told me for over ive years that I had hemroids. At 38 a colonoscopy was done and found stage three colon cancer. It started from a polup that if it had been taken out this would not have happened. I even talked to a lawyer because I had seen colon specialists and in Minnesota the statue is only 4 years so the misdiagnosed doctors are not even aware of their mistake. I hope this dosen’t happen often. I wish we could get the word out.

I think that Mario should get a German Short-haired Pointer. These dogs are very intelligent and if trained well, are just the most amazing well natured dog. They have no known health problems though they need some room to run or they can get a little bored and start chasing squirrels.

Mario, you are a happy-go-lucky guy…get a dog that is alway happy to go with you and be with you like a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Bichon Frise, Cairn Terrier, Coton de Tulear,Skye Terrier, or West Highland White Terrier.
Best of luck - show them love and discipline.

I rescued a 10 month old male Maltese from the South County Shelter in San Diego, Mario’s hometown. He is only 6 lbs and is in need of surgery for Patella Luxation. He is absolutely adorable and would make a great companion for Mario. He’s definite hit with the ladies which is why Mario needs to adopy Jagger.

Get a border collie or a shih tzu. Male

I think you should get a Chihuahua
and name him “killer”
my taste in dogs will always have contrast in their nature and humor in
their names. a poodle named chainsaw
a cocker spaniel named spike
or perhaps the larger breed
a german shepard named “Fifi”
or a rottweiler named Dolly or Lulu.
What ever the choice in all honesty
get one most compatible to your lifestyle. some can be more agressive than others. some need constant attention, if you have the time to give.
others less. The Best example to this
issue of life style is some years back.
when 101 dalmations was released. the sale of dalmation puppy sales went through the roof to many home that couldn’t handle a dog thats not all that child friendly. but above and beyond a new born puppy, is maybe a home broke dog that was probably
given up for adoption. just check backrounds on not only the dog but
on history of those who are selling them
a good reputable shelter.
Best of luck with your Choice!

Get a puppy from your local animal shelter, Humane Society. A lab will be your best friend and follow you anywhere.

I have rescued a dog (Rottweiler) and a kitten. But, the kitten was only a few weeks old. We did get a Rottweiler from a girlfriend when she was 6 weeks old. I had her for 16.5 years. She truly was the most loyal, loving pet I have ever had. The Rottie we rescued was 2 years old, a great dog, but not like when you raise them from a puppy. She too, Chardonnay is great with kids and was raised with them; so I never worry when friends bring their kids into the house. All dogs can be aggressive, it just depends on how you raise them. My Rottie grew up with 2 young boys ages 6 and an infant. So it just depends on how you raise them. My husband wanted a dog, not one that barks all the time. When Sasha barked you knew that something was wrong. She was great with all kids, loved oranges. Truly my best friend. Where ever I was, Sasha was. No matter what type of dog you get, get a puppy because you can train them. Great practice for raising kids too!! They constantly want your undivided attention, just like kids!! Sasha was my big 115 pound lap dog baby. No matter what ever kind of dog you decide upon, they love you unconditionally.

Mario always ask questions where the puppy is from. Hopefully not from a puppy mill. Please adopt from your local animal shelter. It’s not whether what kind of puppy you want because they all come in different shapes and sizes, it’s all about was this puppy from a puppy mill? No matter what you chose, it will love you unconditionally. The price of a puppy tells you your paying for the name brand of the puppy and most likely it came from a puppy mill. Do the right thing like Bob Barker says your local SPCA have your pets spayed or neutered to control the pet population.

You should look at the English Bull Terrier, Budweiser used them as a mascot back in the day (“Spuds McKenzie”) General Patton owned several of them. Target now use’s the dog as their mascot (“Bullseye”)They are loyal, loving and the class clowns so there fun to be around.
