Spike Lee Hosts Jackson Birthday Bash

spike lee hosts michael jackson birthday bash

Director Spike Lee threw a huge birthday party for Michael Jackson over the weekend, on what would have been the King of Pop's 51st birthday.

The bash, which took place in New York City's Prospect Park, featured thousands of one-gloved moonwalkers dancing to tracks Michael made throughout his career. "Fifty-one years ago, he was born into the world," Lee said at the party, as reported by the NY Daily News. "I'm like everybody else -- somebody who loved his talent. We're here to celebrate Michael Jackson."

Spike Lee wasn't the only person celebrating the life of Michael on his birthday -- fans in Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Mexico also made headlines with their birthday celebrations.

Lee directed Jackson's 1996 music video for his hit, "They Don't Care About Us."

Spike… Thank you for a memorable day!!! It’s was a day I will never forget. Everyone came out to celebrate our brother, Michael. We grew up with him, loved him and performed to his songs, immitated him and the entire Jackson 5 group. Talent like Michael’s will only be a memory now. I looked around and forgot I was in Brooklyn, everyone was so together. We sang, laughed, and cried together; all in the spirit of Michael. Don’t stop Spike we need this in Brooklyn to make that change, like Michael sang. “Happy Birthday” to my daughter “DIMO” who also celebrated her 19th birthday on Saturday. To all of the participants thank you for making The New Brooklyn/Michael Jackson Day a success!!! Thank you to all of my new neighbors for creating a atmosphere of pure harmony. Thank you Michael for the memories, music and the love you had for your fans and especially the children. I had a wonderful time and I’m looking forward to next year!!! Peace

Michael I will miss always and forever. As it still hard to listen to You are not alone song. But I can listen to all his other songs but that one song just breaks my heart for now until it stops hurting of the way he was ripped out of out lives like that. I wish he was here for his Birthday once again I’m only a year younger then he is so I grew with him in my live watching him.
