Are you people mad? Anyone who thinks Letterman was making fun of the 14-year old is more of an air head than Palin. And trust me, she knew that he wasn’t either. He took a shot at Bristol, who is 18 years old, which makes her an adult. It’s no difference than me calling Chris Brown (he’s barely legal, too) an idiot for beating his girlfriend back in February. Let me explain something to all of you: once you become an adult celebrity (either A-List, B-List, or C-List), then you are fair game for any comedian. Period. Bristol is not a child any more, she’s legally an adult. If she were 17 years old, I’d understand the outrage from you all. As for Palin, she has a right to be mad that Letterman picked on Bristol, but she chose to twist this entire thing to make Letterman into something that he isn’t. She chose to make everyone think that he was referring to her other daughter (who frankly I’d forgotten existed) and not to Bristol who’s not only 18 and has been “knocked up”. but has become some what of a C-List celebrity with red carpet appearances for multiple events. I will not go as far to say that his jokes about Bristol were tasteful by any means, but when is the last time any one heard “tasteful” jokes on shows after 10 PM?

Letterman went too far, the joke wasn’t that funny number one, and the 14 year old girl was with her at the game so how could he mean he was talking about the older girl.

It’s truly amazing to me that there is such a double standard when it comes to an individual’s political preference. The individuals that take issue with Sarah Palin standing up for her daughter are the same individuals that whine the loudest and cry fowl when they believe they have been offended regarding their own political preference or special interest group. Grow-up people and just have some common decency along with a higher level of intellect that would recognize that Dave’s joke at best was in very poor taste, suggestive and lewd in nature. This kind of humor should have no place in the entertainment industry because it lowers the quality of entertainment to a simpleminded level.

Sarah Palin should sit down and shut up. She was a joke to begin with, so the hillarity continues. She is so blowing this out of proportion. Everone knows Letterman was talking about the twice pregnant Bristol. Come on get a grip on reality and know that she was only in the limelite because old man Mccain was trying to pull the female voters. Sadly for them both we women were smart enough to recognize waste products when we see it.

For the record, I voted Republican. And to an extent, I think that the jokes should be left to the parties at fault, not the innocents in the family (regardless how innocent they actually are). That said, the Palin’s are playing this for much more that it was ever meant to be worth. Anyone who doesn’t know that that being in the spotlight makes you fair game to the late night shows is a very, very, naive and sheltered individual. Letterman, along with everyone else on latenight, frequently make light of the issues of people in public. To take such comments to heart and retalliate as a juvenile would simply demonstrates the lack of maturity as well as understanding that just because you are famouse does not make you right!! So people in your family had partaken in actions that some would find inappropriate, and may possibly make light of in the future. Part of being tactful in politics is to roll with the punches, not punch back. By being aggressive with every poor pun at your expense, the Palin’s weaken themselves to future criticism. They are showing that not only are they weak to jabs from media, but that by being defensive, an understanding that the actions being referred to are in fact inappropriate and unacceptable. I think that even this blog is encouraging the issue to continue, and I am posting against principle. This needs to go away, people need to move on. I watched the Letterman show in question. I didn’t find it in bad taste, objectionable or disgusting. I think anyone with an IQ above George W. Bush understood they were jokes. In this country, we’re still allowed to joke, arent we???
