Palin: Letterman 'Crossed the Line'

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was on the "Today Show" Friday morning to talk about a $26-billion natural gas pipeline deal for her home state, but the interview quickly turned around -- and Palin found herself defending comments she made about David Letterman and his jokes about her family.

The former beauty queen/GOP VP candidate told Matt Lauer that Letterman "crossed the line" when he joked about her daughters.

"I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country" for contributing to a culture "that says it's okay to talk about statutory rape," Palin told Matt Lauer. "It's not cool; it's not funny."

Palin's beef stems from Monday night's "Late Show," when Letterman joked that during the seventh inning of the Yankees game, Palin's "daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." Later in the week, Dave explained his jab, saying, "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl."

Palin told Lauer that Letterman's explanation was a "convenient" and "weak excuse." She criticized the "Late Night" host, saying, "No wonder such young girls, especially, have such low self-esteem in America."

In an apology, Letterman invited the Palins to be guests on his show. In response, the Governor released this statement on Thursday: "The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."

"Extra" wants to know what you think. Is Palin overreacting or is Letterman out of line? Vote now!

I know if that was said about me and my family thick skin or not. It was inappropriate for any person to state. Palin deserves a sincere apology. Shame on Letterman.

Letterman definitely crossed the line. young ladies should not be subject to these kinds of vulgar remarks. It crossed all the lines of being a joke. It was a repulsive remark….a desperate attempt to be funny.

Letterman was dead wrong on this one! His jokes? showed no class or forthought at all. He is losing his touch or maybe he’s taken over for the late Lenny Bruce!

I think Letterman’s comments were very far out of line. To make comments about young women is uncalled for. Just because their Mother is in the limelight does not give anyone the right to make degrading remarks. I have never watched his show and will certianly not do so now!!

Sorry, Dave. You crossed the line. Be a polite, sincere person and apologize.
I used to enjoy your humor years ago, not anymore.

David Lettermen has been a jerk for many years now. I don’t think he had heart surgery but a personality transplant. Let’s wait and see how he reacts when somebody in the media makes a comment about his child in the future. I can hardly wait.

DAVE IS A DIRTY OLD MAN, ANYONE WHO SIDES WITH HIM IS JUST AS BAD.

His show is lagging in the ratings, Dave is deparate for attention and will say anything about kids to get ratings.

I am never watching that fool David again.

We as american citizens have to stand up for children’s rights.

I can’ believe the number of sick commentors that believe Dave.

Dave is wrong and so are you that side with Dave.

I am for the children, not perves like you commentors and Dave.

What happened to INTEGRITY in America? I think it is characteristic of the past, especially with many of those in the spotlight and limelight of our Country. It may be a dying art, but I will continue to teach my children that a man that cannot say “I am sorry, I made a mistake” is not a man.

Dave has commented on everybody one time or another. Palin needs to quite being so sensitive. He said something that many people has thought about. Palin has to quit calling attention to herslf and family or is she trying to get noticed?

LETTERMAN IS WAY OUT OF LINE……THE PALIN FAMILY SHOULD BE MADE THE OBJJECT OF SICK AND PERVERTED JOKES…..IF IT WAS HIS FAMILY HOW WOULD HE FEEL?

For the record,I’m Canadian so my comments have no political motivation…all I have to say is what is wrong with you people? Making a joke about children of those in the public arena is wrong. 14 or 18 years old, they are children for heaven’s sake and anyone who finds children as acceptable fodder for late night humour is as irresponsible as Letterman. There are boundaries that an educated and sophisticated society should not cross.

David Letterman is history in my book! He has become increasingly obnoxious over the last several years. This “joke” about Sarah Palin’s daughter turned my stomach! A father of a boy or girl should refuse to even consider such comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM A DEMOCRAT. I AM FOR THE DEFENSE OF ANY CHILD AND SICK PERVERTED JOKES BY DAVE OR ANYONE ELSE.

RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG.

DAVE IS WAY OUT OF LINE AND ANYONE THAT SUPPORTS HIM IS ALSO A PERVERT WHO DELIGHTS IN CHILDREN SICK JOKES.

MORE AND MORE, I AM GETTING TIRED OF THE LIBERAL MEDIA AND LIBERAL PEOPLE. THEY ARE TOO LOOSE AND HAVE NO HEART.

LOOK AT CARRIE PREJEAN, LOOK AT ALL SHE HAD TO ENDURE AND SHE IS AN ADULT AND CAN SPEAK FOR HERSELF.

CHILDREN ARE OFF LIMITS. WHERE IS THE CONSIDERATION?

NEXT TIME, I AM VOTING REPUBLICAN,,, I AM ASHAMED TO BE A DEMOCRAT. LOOK AT JAMIE FOXX AND THE COMMENTS HE MADE ABOUT A WHITE UNDERAGE GIRL…MILEY CYRUS.

YES, DEMOCRATS, THERE ARE TOO MANY INJUSTICES AGAINST PEOPLE THAT ARE REPUBLICAN.

I AM FOR THE UNDERDOG. I DON’T HEAR ANY SICK JOKES ABOUT THE OBAMA GIRLS.

YEAH, BECAUSE OBAMA IS THE DARLING OF THE LIBERAL MEDIA AND HIS SH*T DON’T STINK.

THERE ARE TOO MANY INJUSTICES AND THEY HAVE TO STOP.

REPUBLICANS, I AM SORRY I VOTED DEMOCRAT,,,,NOT ANYMORE,,,,I AM VOTING REPUBLICAN…I AM TIRED OF ALL THE INJUSTICES…MILEY CYRUS,,,,MISS CARRIE PREJEAN….NOW…THE PALIN GIRLS.

I haven’t seen the episode however, my initial thought was this:

Don’t women in Palin’s home constituency have to pay for their own rape kits?

Least that’s what I “heard”.

If that’s the case, then I’m not sure what to make of the whole Palin/Letterman thing.

Letterman definitely crossed the line. His “comedy” was vicious and not funny. Sara Palin is in the public eye and has taken her fair share of shots, but family is OFF LIMITS, particularly children. I won’t watch his show again.
