Madonna Wins Adoption Appeal

Madonna adopting child in Malawi

On Friday, Malawi's highest court ruled Madonna can adopt a second child from the African country.

Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo praised Madonna's commitment to helping disadvantaged children and slammed "old laws" that prevented first adoption attempts.

In April, a residency law in Malawi had prevented the divorced 50-year-old from adopting a second child there.

"It's the wee hours of morning in New York, but she is excited at the news," Madonna's lawyer Alan Chinula told the Associated Press. "As her lawyer, I am happy that this has settled this contentious issue."

Preparations are already underway to bring Chifundo "Mercy" James, 3, to America.

The Material Girl adopted David Banda, 3, from Malawi in 2006 and is also mom to Lourdes, 12, and 8-year-old Rocco.

I thought buying individuals was against the law. Oh snap! I forgot she “adopted” this child. I think there is no question the child will be better off but is it right?
