The "Jon and Kate Plus 8" craze is starting to lose its appeal -- and the show's ratings have plummeted.

Monday night's episode saw a drop of more than a million viewers from the previous week. The show included a visit from the stars of TLC's "American Chopper" -- and brought in only 2.9 million viewers, while the May 25 season 5 premiere was watched by a whopping 9.8 million viewers.

Rumors about Kate and Jon Gosselin's rocky marriage helped make the show's season premiere the most watched episode so far. On the show, the two do not directly address any marital issues or controversy.

People magazine reports Jon Gosselin was about 150 miles away from his wife and kids on the weekend of his 10th wedding anniversary. Jon enjoyed lunch in West Nyack, NY with an "older male friend" while Kate and co. played on the lawn of their home in Pennsylvania.

A waiter at the Stir Crazy Fresh Asian Grill in West Nyack tells People, "Jon was on the phone most of the time and was definitely talking to his kids."

Gosselin returned home on Monday.

I am a young girl from S.C. I for one think the show should come to an end. I think this because of the issues Kate and Jon are having. I also think that Kate should be primary custodial parent. I think this because in most divorce cases the children live with there mother until visitation time with the other parent.

I think they need to take the show off TLC.those poor kids are just going to go through even more Crap.plus going from watching a good family unit to watching jon and kate not even being on shows together is wack.and saying the media should leave them alone-COME oN be realistic. If your famous and on tv the media is going to beat you up no matter what!but about the spanking incident shoot my lil one gets spanked!GOODBYE JON AND KATE plus eight……..

We all know that the audience likes to watch a train wreck. We loved it when Jon & Kate were poor and struggling. They were like us. Who wants to see a family with gifts and trips presented to them left and right. I don’t! They are not like us anymore and it’s not fun to watch. Kate needs to come back to reality and realize that filming has got to stop. Jon realized that a while ago and that’s the reason he’s not around and that’s the reason that the show’s producers try to buy him back with all those toys…motorcycle, sport car, everything and anything. More and more money is Kate’s priority now and she will risk everything for the”sake of her children” yah, right. Greed is overtaking this mother. How sad!

People can always look at your situation and tell you what you should or should not do. Sometimes spanking is necessary and who the he’ll are all you people saying she’s wrong they are her kids not yours, until you are a mom of multiple children shut up. Your kids are probably running all over you. It’s a spanking not a bloody beating. As parents it’s our choice how are children are disciplined, what works for some does not work for others

I’m so tired of everyone talking about Jon and Kate. Everyone goes through hard times and with the nosey media butting in is just making it worse. The new photos of Kate spanking her daughter, Oh well it’s not against the law to use corpral punishment on a child. Let them settle this situation in freaking peace yall. How would you feel if it was you being thrown under the bus?

I cant believe TLC shows this kind of programming. Its awful! I thought TLC was a learning channel,I can learn about this in tabloids and on the news. I for one will not be watching this program anymore. Jon and Kate have benefitted enough financially off of their children. Shame on them and shame on TLC for putting financial gain before the well being of those children.
