'Extra' Friends Split over Gosselin Spanking

Kate Gosselin is under fire for spanking one of her 5-year-old sextuplets -- and while many "Extra" Friends don't like the TV mom, the majority of said spanking was perfectly fine.

"I don't like Kate, but as a mom I think she did the right thing. Unless you spend a day in a mom's shoes, don't judge," said Donna. Added Kelley, "I am shocked that America has stooped this low! The woman was disciplining her child, for crying out loud!"

In fact, 68% of you say "spanking is effective." Only 32% said "spanking is abusive."

Still, citing Kate's alleged temper, some "Extra" Friends say she shouldn't have slapped Leah out of anger. "There's a difference between spanking that gets out of control because of anger, and spanking to discipline & train your child," said Kim. Added Rae, "Those children are victims of her inability to make sound decisions... spanking is due to an inability to control your own emotions."

i think it is ok to smack a child i am 16 and i get a smack every know and then and i havent got a crimnal reccord etc. my mum threatens me frist then she smacks me excalty like kate did.

I am sorry to say this and I know many dont agree but.. good for you Kate! I was never really a fan of her just because she seems like more of a devoted diva than a devoted mother. Having said that I see where the children may have picked up the attitude. I do believe in spanking when the situation calls for it. My parents spanked us and I SPANK MY KIDS! This new age crap is just that. Any shrink that says it is wrong and bad for a childs development is just saying that so they can have them as a patient down the road in a drug recovery rehab center or a jail because they don’t respect authority and have any regard for others. I can assure the studies on spanking are flawed and bias. There are good and bad parents as well as good and bad doctors. I have seen parents say ” I don’t spank my kids” as they light a cigarette in the house, or slap their face when the situation does not call for it, or even call them degrading names in front of others. To me any of that stuff is much more psychologically and developmentally devastating to a child. Let her Kate Gosslin spank her kids when the time is right. Many more times than that I have seen Kate praise her children and shower them with extravagance. One swat in 5 years….. Get a life people. Find some one else to talk about. Or re evaluate your own technique! I just gained a ton of respect for her this week.

I believe if a children deserves their butts whipped then give it to them.. maybe if more parents would have been harder on their children all the crime in the world might not be so darn high..

I am the mom of twins and every once in a while a little pat on the butt is not a big deal. I couldn’t imagine being the mom of 8 and unless you walk in the shoes of a mom of multiples don’t be so quick to judge.

I spanked my daughter also when she was young. For those of you that are making a big deal of this, get a life, she is not out of control, she is trying to make a little girl behave, simple as that.

That is what is wrong with parents today. They want to be their child’s friend instead of the parent. Kate is right and there is nothing wrong with spanking your child. My Mother and Father raised four and they didn’t spare the rod. We all have college educations and have never been in trouble. Look at the children of Hollywood stars. What do you get? Spoiled brats who think there are no rules for them. Thank you Mom and Dad for being parents instead of my friend.

I spank my children when they are naughty. It is her choice on how she disciplines her children.
