'The China Study': Is Your Diet Toxic?

"Extra" Lifechanger Dr. Colin Campbell and his med-student son are speaking out against an animal protein diet in their new book "The China Study" -- and revealing how changing your diet can reverse cancer and heart disease.

Lifechanger Dr. Colin Campbell and his book, 'The China Study'

The National Dairy council strongly disagrees with Campbell's claims -- for more information on the subject, check out their website here.

NEXT: Sarah Palin: 'I Respect Carrie Prejean'

I wish they would also allow differing opinions on health and nutrition to be aired as well. A good speaker for this would be Sally Fallon or Dr. Mary Enig of the Weston A. Price foundation.

I think I would prefer actual scientists with first hand knowledge on the subject like Dr. Campbell. The Weston A. Price Foundation is a group of non-scientific laypersons that spread harmful, poorly researched information.

Thank you, Extra, for airing this story. I’ve read the China Study, and it is a life-changing book. All of the research is there. It’s not a matter of simply switching to free-range or organic meat and dairy. The fact is, animal protein triggers cancers, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and a whole host of other health issues that might not otherwise be triggered. I can’t help but wonder why people get so defensive about their meat-heavy diets? It’s sort of like smokers claiming that cigarettes are not only not bad for you, but good for you. And, now that diet has surpassed smoking as the leading preventable cause of death, perhaps people will begin to consider what they put on their plate, and switch to a whole-foods, plant-based diet. Frankly, I’d rather pop a B-12 pill than take insulin for the rest of my life or have a stint put in my heart; but heck, that’s me.

Vegans suffer from a lack of fat soluble vitamins and from an imbalance of minerals. Vitamin A, D3 and B12 are some of the vitamins they lack. They also have a copper/zinc mineral imbalance which can cause a lot of problems. Many of them eat non fermented soy products such as; tofu, TVP, and soy milk to compensate a lack of protein which can lead to a whole host of other health issues. Many of them would simply not survive out in the wild without artificial vitamins and minerals.

I’ve seen a lot of segments on ExtraTV extolling the virtues of vegetarianism. I wish they would also allow differing opinions on health and nutrition to be aired as well. A good speaker for this would be Sally Fallon or Dr. Mary Enig of the Weston A. Price foundation. Their website is www.westonaprice.org
Personally, I was a vegetarian for 27 years until I realized my diet was causing many health issues for me. I now eat free range meat and raw dairy.

Don’t believe the hype! Vegans are not as healthy as omnivores who eat free range meat and raw dairy. Show me one vegan centenarian! You won’t find any! Zip, none, nada! Eating meat doesn’t cause cancer or heart disease! Eating processed, industrial food such as refined grains and sugars, vegetable oils and grain fed processed meats and pasteurized dairy causes heart disease and cancer and a whole host of other diseases. Look for the teachings of Dr. Weston A. Price for information on health and longevity.

Thanks, Extra. People need to know that that a plant-centered diet of whole foods has been healing people for many years of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes & other conditions. Doubters can Google the Gerson Therapy,
the Budwig diet, the new book called
Blue Zones[& there’s more]. There’s plenty of research supporting these ideas. People are overcoming disease & living in healthy ways through a plant-centered, whole foods diet. A small amount of healthy low-fat cheese is okay in some cases. Why do some vegans become ill? They may not have been eating whole, unrefined foods. Plus, stress is also a factor. Why doesn’t everyone who eats animal protein become ill? It starts in our genes. Mutated genes make us prone to certain illnesses; but people genetically prone
to cancer etc. can prevent it or overcome it through the right nutrition & life style choices. Check a free Yahoo group called FlaxseedOil2 and meet
many of them. There are over 120 testimonials from members who have become cancer free or free of other conditions by eating a low-protein diet
of very healthful foods.

Kudos Extra for airing this series. I realize Dr. Campbell’s stance is controversial and opposed by powerful lobbies, but I am gratified to finally see more and more stories supporting this position. As a 62 year old Vegan (for the last six years) I am healthy and vigorous and never plagued by stomach ailments or headaches or any of the issues that I dealt with before. I eat a delicious and varied diet that is plant-based and mainly organic. Thank you! Thank you! I look forward to Part 2.

What a great interview. Finally it is time that people start to know how healthy eating can be a life saver. Dairy is the number one killer in America. Look at obesity in all our younger children. More and more children are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD and it is due to the poor healthy eating habits. Keep on going DR. Campbell and Tom.

I have been a caretaker of an individual with primary progressive MS for seven years. The comments this doctor makes about stopping MS symptoms are very serious. There are four types of MS, not all can be treated or even stopped by medicine, let alone diet change after they are diagnosed. There is no known or documented cure for MS and it is a horrible disease! The claims this Doctor makes could give false hope to individuals who are desperately sick and need to stick with their medical treatment, which is similar to chemo and very expensive. I know because I watched my loved one go from a fully functioning human being to being totally bedridden. He was diagnosed with primary progressive MS and desperate for a cure to maintain his life style followed claims of “cure” diets from a Doctor. We ate all natural, juiced, and took vitamins, which didn’t work. It is not fair to prey upon the individuals who are desperate for a cure to a life altering illness. Also, I went to the China Study website where is all the research and documentation about the 95% of the MS cases the have suspended or stopped. Come on Extra do your research and makes some disclaimers here!

And if all that were true more than half of the population or even more would have died in between from cancer.
I know several “vegans” who have cancer, how come? Due to the pesticides the veggies? Or because they didn’t get the meat protein?

Thank goodness that a major show is willing to tell the truth about food, our “medicine”. As a 33 year vegan I have known and lived this way of eating and at 66 I am like a 33 year old. No ailments, medications and I come from a family of cancer adn heart disease on both sides of my heritage. I have so many friends who are cimilar and very healthy. I have not had dairy in all these years and have fine bones! But, many of my cheese-lover friends have probelms. We have to be open to realzing that the more we learn the more we need to be willing to accept new “truths” about anything. Why not foods? Do we not see the dangers of a meat-based diet everywhere we look? Walk in any school in the country as a start. Not a difficult concept tograsp. The food is not the food our forefathers had on the farm. I hope everyone at least learns enough to save their own health adn in the process the wonderful advantage of helping the animals and the environment. All with each bite we take. Very powerful!
