Kris Allen is 'Idol' Champ!

In an upset victory over Adam Lambert, Kris Allen has been crowned the new American Idol!

Allen, a 23-year-old Arkansas native, wowed the judges with his rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine" Tuesday night, but never received the kind of praise that the judging panel showered on Adam Lambert, 27. For the judges, the singing battle between Allen and Lambert heated up when Kris proved his star power with a performance of Kanye West's "Heartless."

Both of the finalists took the stage Wednesday night with music legends -- Kris performed with Keith Urban, while Adam rocked the stage with KISS.

At the top of the show, "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest revealed that over 100 million votes were cast for the contestants -- and a record-breaking 624 million votes were cast during the season!

The finale also boasted performances by the Black Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper and Keith Urban.

Kris is more talented. And after hearing a few songs in a row from Adam last night, that screaming was pretty hard on the ears and irritating at times. Wishing Kris lots of luck. So what’s with Extra and the media paying all the attention to Adam? Newsflash….. Kris won! Let’s hear from him, please. Thanks.

Both had talent of different styles. Adam more personality, Kris not so much. Adam loud and out there, Kris not so much. Looking back on Idol I remember more of Adams performances, Kris not so much.
When the winner was announced and Kris’s reaction OH ADAM DESERVES IT. See Ryan’s reaction to that COME ON ACCEPT THIS…(not exact words) Kris is SO mellow, low key, in this business not so good especially if you are trying to sell yourself as NEW TALENT. Hope he gets GOOD advisers that will allow him to show a believable image as a musician. If you DON”T show you BELIEVE YOU ARE GOOD how can you convince the rest of US buying your music? Good luck Kris. Adam will do good TOO.

i am so happy that kris won american idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i started crying after ryan secrests BIG dramatic pauseand i started screaming!!!!!!!!!!KRIS deserved to win american idol and i cant wait to hear his songs on the radio. it will be the start of a new beginning!!!!!!!!I LOVE U KRIS!!!!!!!!

I AM SOOOOO GLAD KRIS WON. ADAM GETS ON MY NERVES. DANNY SHOULD OF CAME IN FIRST OR SECOND:} HIS HEART IS IN HIS MUSIC. I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR HIS AND KRIS’S ALBUM.
I FEEL SO SORRY FOR KRIS B/C THE MEDIA IS MAKING IT ALL ABOUT ADAM. I GUESS EVERYONE LIKES TO HEAR A BOY SCREAMING BETTER THAN A TRUE MAN WITH TALENT!!!
I THOUGHT THE 2 HOUR SHOW WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD. IT WAS BETTER THN THE ENTIRE SEASON.

I never post comments on these sites but I am so mad at your show…can’t figure out why your entire show today was all about ADAM, when Kris was named the American Idol….voted on by the public. I actually like them both. Loved Adam from the start. Upset or no upset, it makes no sense that you devoted NO airtime to Kris, his talent, and his obvious fan base the very day after he wins. Very unobjective reporting and poor content choice on your part. Very disappointing.

I am SOOOO tired of people in the media saying that this was such an upset—and that “if it was just about talent, then it would be different!! This totally diminishes Kris’s talent! The guy is ultra talented and should be commended for that instead of taking away from his win because the “expected” did win!!

I was so happy for Kris- even my 17 year old daughter preferred Kris over Adam… I like his voice and never tire of it. Adam has alot of talent, but I can only listen to him for so long, the screeching really got old fast - I must say tho…I probably would have voted for Alison over both of them!! She has SO much talent! I can’t wait to see what happens with her.

Can you imagine tha bookies that betted on Adam as the favorite to win? I bet they are all pulling their hair out in disappointment. They placed their bets on Adam not thinking Kris was going to win.

Kris reminds me of that dark horse female that raced with all the male horses and Rachel Alexandra came from behind and beat the other horses by far. She was not the favorite to win, yet she won…that remimds me of Kris…congrats Kris and good job.

They were SO great, from the top 4, on. They worked so hard, and gave some brilliant performances. When Adam did ‘Ring of Fire’, I nearly fainted, it was so hauntingly beautiful, and original. When Kris did ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ (never a fave of mine), I suddenly fell in love with the song! They’re opposite ends of the same coin, in my opinion. Kris’ voice is one you never tire of; Adam’s performances are unbelievable to see. They’re both really true to themselves, original, and seem like wonderful, wonderful young men. I’d have been happy either way,no matter which of the two won. I know they’re both going places; you can’t discard talents like theirs, once they’ve been uncovered. PS to ‘BOO’ - are you serious?!?!?!? All you have to do is recall November 2008 to know that your comment is passé and untrue; stop looking for issues that aren’t there. Adam would’ve been gone LONG ago, if something THAT insignificant mattered.

I am happy for Kris, but I was all for Adam. In a way I am glad Adam came in second, so he would be able to persue his on projects without the interference of AI. I can’t wait for Adam’s first album. He maybe gay, but he is still sexy hot!!!

I thought Ryan was joking when he announced Kris. He’s a really great guy, but he is not in Adam’s league. I think people try to put Adam in a box as only a rocker, but I downloaded his Tracks of My Tears and its beautiful. He can sing anything.

I don’t feel that Kris’s talent was even close to Adam vocals.
Adam would have won if he had not told them that he was gay.

I was very disappointed the Kris has talent but it is no where close to the vocal range that Adam displayed.

Kris needs to work on his vocals and his stage presents for another year.

I think it was fixed once you found out that Adam was gay.
