Former beauty queen Shanna Moakler has resigned as executive director of Miss California USA because she "no longer believes" in the organization.

"Since the press conference yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization," Shanna tells "Extra."

She continues, "I can not with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth. I want to be a role model for young woman with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams."

Miss California Carrie Prejean sparked controversy when she said during the Miss USA pageant that she believed marriage was between a man and a woman. Later, she was reportedly in talks to lead a campaign opposing gay marriage.

After the controversial remarks, Moakler announced that she would appear in an ad that supported gay rights, and at the end of April filmed a campaign slamming Prop 8.

On Monday, Shanna announced that the organization was investigating whether or not Carrie had violated her contract by posing for semi-nude pictures. "The fact that she ended the pageant and admitted it after the fact" reveals that Prejean "entered the contest under false pretense."

Moakler also slammed the beauty queen for recording "telemarketing" phone calls for the National Organization for Marriage, and added, "Carrie has been unavailable to us... because of her commitment to outside organizations."

Shanna was named Miss New York USA and went on to become Miss USA in 1995.

Shana Moakler needs a life who is she to judge any one she had a child with one man, has exposed herself just like Carrie, married another man and left him and did the merry go round dance with him.she talks about stability for her kids get a reality check Shana because your life sure is not it. Why to people like u even speak when your lives are not better. Shut up and keep on moving no body paid any attention to u before this. Your publicist give u some good advice so u would not fade out of the limelife. Get over your self

AWWWW!! Poor little Shanna! She and her far left nut-jobs didn’t get to force Carrie out of her title!! AW! Poor babies!! Why doesn’t this former playmate sl*t go away and stay away!! She and many others in the entertainment community continually show how far out of touch they are with the rest of the country! And they are far from “enlightened” more like disgusting, highly selfish and immoral! I live in a town where Alan Autry who was an actor and starred in “HEAT OF THE NIGHT” AND BECAME MAYOR OF FRESNO, CALFI. He teamed up with a prominent well know pastor of a church and they were for prop 8.

Do you know what the angry gays did, they threatened Alan Autry and the pastor with death threats.

It just goes to show the extreme lengths these gays will go to just to prove their point. They are not nice people and are violent people.

I am for traditional marriage and Carrie Prejean.

There was a straight actress who was going to come to Fresno, Cal to protest in favor of the gays. Fresno, cal is the bible gateway of calif…now these stupid actors want to come to Fresno to help the gays…stay home you stupid actors..we don’t want you here in our town. Extra, as usual, you ‘forgot’ some facts about the ‘role model to young women’ and ‘children’. She WAS Miss NY, AND Miss USA 1995. She WAS ALSO Playmate of the Year 2001, had a child out of wedlock w/ (ew) Oscar de la Hoya, and made a public negative remark of a very personal nature regarding a famous ex-boyfriend. She also, in my opinion, is needlessly toying w/ her kids’ need for stability and consistency, w/ an on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again, on-again, and off-again relationship w/ their father. WOW, now THAT’S role modeling. She’s right to leave an organization like Miss USA - before they realized who they hired.
