Great insight Dr. Gabe! I love that you relate this story to PTSD. Hopefully the greater understanding of PTSD by the public will lead to some understanding of the psychological principles in this case. What parenting style would using your kids to make money fall under? Authoritarian?

Dr. Gabe,
I really like what you said about john not knowing who he was and that the kids would end up the same way. It is really sad and completely true. Those poor kids are going to take what their dad said and put it on themselves. They need to be with a therapist who helps them see that they are their own person and that they need to find themselves. They do not always need to be associated with john and kate plus 8 and they need to know thats not where their worth comes from.

I agree that this drama is going to have a negative effect on the children. John and Kate need to begin to put the children first. If they are saying they do not wish to be on television, they need to respect their wishes. After all, they are only on television because of the children.

Dr. Gabe, Agree with you that they all need counseling. I also think the show should stop being aired and their family being video-taped. The media only cares about one thing….ratings, and will stop at nothing to get them higher. Not only are the children having to deal with the divorce in real life, they will also get to find their issues forever on video by Googling their own family. I think this will cause resentment toward their parents later on when they are older.

Dr. Gabe I certainly hope Jon and Kate take your advice to heart because that whole family is hurting. We as adults can get over problems with a little help most of the time, but those children are going to hurt the most in the long run.

Hey there dr. gabe, feel like I know you, now. Listening to your professional advice and beliefs makes a lot of sense. Jon and Kate is a mess but, maybe if they bother to listen to the professional they’ll be able to make some sense out of their new found fame and lives. I believe that a parent snaps like Jon because they have no where else to turn and they they think that by doing this it will solve all of their problems. Money and fame, isn’t that like a drug, too, Dr. Gabe? I dont think there is much sense to be made out of it though.

I think that u shouldnt be afraid to show your emotions and shouldn’t let your pride take over u. My mother suffered from Schizophrenia and I want to know y isnt there no answers? She now also has breast cancer and has also spread to her lungs my grandmother also suffered and my youngest sister has it i never had any answers . Will I develop Schizophrenia? You gave very important information to the family and if they care anything about their children they would pay attention. Maybe you should suggest that they do some parenting classes so that they can aquire some real parenting skills and stop exploiting their children and learn how to raise them to be mentally sane productive human beings. They are only thinking about instant gradification and not the future of their children.

Hey Dr. Gabe, I feel that your analysis of what the children are going through is very insightful. If Jon and Kate keep going on like this, the children are going to be negatively affected. They really need counseling and they really need to be out of the limelight. A parent should never subject their children to such humiliation, hurt and pain. How selfish can a person be. I really hope that everything works out for the children…before it’s too late. Thanks again Dr. Gabe for your insight. We really do need healing in all of our families today.
