VOTE: D.C. Mag Disrespectful?

Washingtonian Magazine's May cover proudly displays President Barack Obama in red swim trunks -- and that's about it!

The new issue features an article listing the 26 reasons Washingtonian Magazine loves living in the nation's capital. Reason number 2 is White House resident Barack Obama.

Washingtonian Editor-at-Large Garrett Graff tells "Extra," "We were trying to capture just how exciting it is to be in Washington right now." Graff adds, "The Obamas are red hot. It's not just about Barack's physique, it's about all of the people he's bringing in and all of the energy he's bringing to Washington."

"Extra" wants to know -- Is it disrespectful to feature a shirtless pic of the President on the cover of a magazine?

Upload your video comments or post a comment below -- and you could be featured on tonight's "Extra"!

In plain english, the Prez is not a slave, this is 2009, times are changing, and so what of it if he took his shirt off? SO WHAT!!!!!!!! Quit nitpicking and trying to be so critical of the Prez. ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL

YEA WE ALL SAID HE WAS A “SLAVE”!!

ISN’T THAT WHAT YOUR TRYING TO GET AT?

WHY ALL THE EGG-SHELLS, AND TIP-TOE AROUND YOUR RACIST VIEW REGARDING UNFLATTERING COMMENTS ABOUT THE PRESIDENT.

YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED TO STEP UP MORE THAN A HUNDRED YEARS. YOU SEEM CONFUSED THAT TIMES HAVE CHANGED!

HANG ONTO THAT “RACE CARD” FOR WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT SOMETIME, HUH?

yea, right

I thought he was a free man and was allowed to go shirtless. According to some of you commentors, he is not a free man and how dare he dress that way. TSK, TSK, SHAME SHAME ON YOU ALL!

I thought he was a free man

Thank you, friend. I wish I were wrong, but I’m glad I’m not alone. Many of us are really freaked by the new-style political’coverage’, or what passes as such. I guess they’ll grasp at ANYTHING to try and justify the choice, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with the job. That’s not really giving the man any credit, either, so it sort of backfires into condescension.

man, are we in trouble!

I totally agree!!

In just a few short sentences you made a world of sense.

Good Job!

for "man are we in trouble"

I can’t believe some of you actually are intimating that because the pres is ‘hot’, fit, and ‘looks great’, that it’s a qualification, a prerequisite for being a great president. He looks good, therefore he must BE good???? With such skewed and twisted logic, no wonder someone so inexperienced won. Look at your screening process!!

man, are we in trouble!

AMY, you’re so right! Don’t forget the unseemly appearance on Jay Leno!! Didja ever? Sharing a set that has housed such dignitaries as Courtney Love, Robin Williams, Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna, etc. Stop trying to dazzle us with nonsense, baffle us with bs, and tell the media to lay off the ‘Enquirer mag’ type coverage. bo knows when to say ‘off limits’ when it comes to ANYTHING he doesn’t want to answer, or be known, or be put on the spot about. Why would he not be upset about such inappropriate stuff like hairdos, beachwear, nicknames, and other fluff? Get to it. He’s the leader of the country, not ‘our’ homeguy.

I do no think it is in poor taste to photograph the president on vacation, or out after a run where he might very well be dressed as he was in this photo. I think his making the cover is great as he wishes to be seen like regular people to better relate to us and what he stands for! HOWEVER….the caption is way out of line and disrepectful! If the magazine had chosen a better approach than the “HOT” sexy connotation it implies, folks would see things entirely different.

I’ve got to get a copy of that President’s handbook that says..

1. “The Commander in Chief.. shall not drink beers at basketball games.”
2. “The Commander in Chief.. shall not walk shirtless down a beach, even if he is with his family, and even if he has a SMOKING HOT BODY..”

I would rather see him shirtless.. than G.W.Bush..

This is not an appropriate picture in the cover of a magazine. Maybe if it is posted inside the magazine then it will be allright. People should give respect to somebody especially if he is a president of the most powerful nation in the world. Can’t understand about the furor people are causing about obama!

I don’t see whats the big deal about the picture. Where is it stated that just because you are the president that on your own time you cannot enjoy life.Does becomming president means you may no longer live a life outside the white house.I am happy to see that now we have a president that is in great shape.

I keep forgetting that this man is the leader of the free world. Everyone has given him celebrity status. The office of the President was NEVER suppose to be a popularity contest. Who cares what he’s wearing or not wearing or what dog he’s bringing hom. Let’s talk about his rushed policies and how he’s not allowing enough time to see if they’re working before implementing follow up policies. I wish he’s stop vacationing so much and start paying attention to the outcome of what he’s signed. For example, why was he “surprised” that AIG contract bonuses were paid? It was written in the legislation he signed! Come on Barrack! Put the shirt on and get back to work.

With a body like that! YES, show it! It’ll make other countries leaders intimidated. :D

I didn’t vote for him in the first place
The press never cared what they say about the president. He does look hot.

I think people should stop being so nit picky about the president. In this day and time where everyone is complaining about obesity in both men and women, isn’t great that our president and his wife are intelligent, fashionable, healthy and fit. People usally try to pattern themselves after high profile individuals. Perhaps, this might make people more conscience about their appearance. The Obama’s are of a new breed that have been in the White House in recent years. They are down to earth and not pretentious. Just leave them alone and stop trying to find so much fault. Take them for what they are, people like us who like to have fun and be themselves.
