Lil and Anoop Leave the Stage

"American Idol" contestants Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were sent home from the FOX competition on Wednesday night, having received the least number of votes from viewers.

Allison Iraheta was also in the bottom three after the show's disco theme performances on Tuesday night. The 16-year-old remained safe and now is the only female left in the weekly singing battle.

For weeks now, the judges have been telling Lil Rounds she could be going home. Cowell predicted the 24-year-old mother of three would get the boot after her performance of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman," calling Rounds' rendition a "mess."

"I'm actually going to miss your family screaming at us every week," Simon said to Lil just before she gave a farewell encore, which Paula reviewed as "classy."

Desai was the judging panel's final wild card pick during the beginning of the competition, but the 22-year-old college student had trouble standing out. On Tuesday, Anoop performed Donna Summers' "Dim All the Lights." "I'm so really disappointed," Desai said.

During the show, the final seven wore bell bottoms and sunglasses for a group performance of The Jackson's "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)," choreographed by judge Paula Abdul.

The five singers remaining include Matt Giraud, Iraheta, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, and Adam

R - To me, that’s the one flaw of the show - that ability to re-vote. Plus, there’s always a certain group, who, unfortunately, make choices (in many circumstances)based upon that which has absolutely nothing to do with the ACTUAL REASON they’re voting. Even Simon, in all his caustic wisdom, could not get through THAT twisted logic. Manipulation would not exist if there weren’t those willing to be manipulated, whether through ignorance, laziness, or indifference. At least, with a TV show, minimal harm is incurred.

Hi Sue,

Look at it this way, AI does not have as many viewers as it does voters. People vote repeatedly, since there is no limit on the number of votes - by texting or phone. If Simon could sway 1000 people who each vote 30 times, then that’s 30,000 votes, which makes the difference between someone staying or going.

One would like to believe that young people aren’t swayed, but let’s be real, they are. Of course, not all young people, but many are impressionable. Unfortunately, even people who make “crude” remarks can subtly convince others to adopt their beliefs.

The thing about manipulation is that you don’t know you’re being manipulated.

well in the first place there is no one in the whole group that can sing .this is getting to be a joke.

I had hoped that Matt, instead of Anoop, would be gone - ah, well, the public has spoken. Hey, RD, if Simon could ACTUALLY sway millions upon millions of voters with just his few allowed words (in the midst of rude cackling and booing by the audience, paula, and randy), he’d probably be president by now. People USUALLY have minds of their own. Although I can see why you might think people are easily swayed in this day and age.

Anoop has an amazing voice!!

He wasn’t given a fair chance at AI. There was only one time that Simon gave him credit. Simon manipulates the show to get the person he wants to win. Afterall, he is the person who created and runs it.

Unfortunately, some impressionable viewers do listen to the comments of the judges (esp. Simon), which affects their votes. The one time that Simon gave Anoop credit for his singing ability, he was not in the bottom three. (Let’s remember when he said “zero to hero” and Anoop was safe.) However, his remaining comments were always critical or unenthusiastic -Anoop, therefore, was constantly in the bottom three. Simon just didn’t like Anoop for some reason. Anoop showed a lot of class by mostly remaining silent when he was constantly critiqued. he really took it all in stride, which shows his maturity both as an artist and a young man.

Anoop definitely has a huge fanbase!! Once Anoop gets more exposure to a broader audience, he’ll do even better. People of certain demographics do not like or watch AI. Believe me, it’s very true.

He really was treated poorly. It just disgusted me. I’m in my thirties and I’ve never followed AI. I saw Anoop singing and he caught my attention. Based on his treatment, this will be the last time that I follow this show. I understand Simon has his opinions and has the right to express them. However, a judge should be unbiased, which he clearly wasn’t. Does he even have a background in music?

At this time, I hope Anoop keeps in mind that what may seem to be a defeat in a moment, could be a wonderful blessing in disguise. He probably wouldn’t want to be produced by Simon’s label. It seems that Simon would exercise too much control over an artist.

I agree, by rights is should be between Adam and Allison. I just see most of the woman voting for Adam, but I am hoping Allison gets her fair share of the votes. Gender should not matter

I believed that Lil Rounds should have not been kick of last night, i believed that Matt G should have been kick of instead of Lil Rounds. Allison should have not been in the bottom two last night that really did not any bit of sense to me.

I’m glad Lil is gone. She wasn’t good enough to win. I liked Anoop but he couldn’t win either. Allison can go next. I can’t stand looking at her.
Adam is the only standout and should win hands down!!!

NO excuse for Allison to be in the Bottom 3!!!!! She turned in a stellar performance Tuesday night, and she is an outstanding talent who is not getting her due. She is the only contestant worthy of standing with Adam in the Top 2. Last week, America was about to send Matt packing. This week, he was safe, and Allison was in danger? That doesn’t make one bit of sense at all.
