Valerie Bertinelli -- Bikini Babe!

Sitcom star Valerie Bertinelli, 48, has dropped 50 pounds -- and she's sporting a two-piece on the cover of this week's People magazine! The "One Day at a Time" star says this is the first time she has slipped into a bikini in 30 years!

People magazine's Galina Espinosa tells "Extra" the cover pic is not a fake! Espinosa says there's minimal airbrushing and Valerie earned her hot bod by walking five miles a day. Espinosa tells the star's secret, saying she cut out salt and champagne and "dropped to 1,200 calories." Watch out, Tuddy!

Two years ago, "Extra" caught up with Valerie before she started eating right with Jenny Craig. Now she's confessing her fears on her Jenny Craig video blog. "Getting up from that lounge chair... You know what I'm talking about. Making that terrifying walk into the water in front of what feels like the entire world to see!"

Check out Bertinelli's story in the new issue of People!

I appreciate the fact she took control and lost all that weight, but I think they REALLY over did the body makeup. And, believe me, they paint and sprayed on muscles, taking away what her skin truly looks like. Jaimie Lee Curtis set a fine example of the differences between reality and photograph and I think Valerie would have set a better example if she showed the weight loss without all the body paint. The average women does not have access to all those tricks.

If any young girls are reading all the positive feedback on Valerie, let it be something that is good. Valerie has curves, she is not skinny, skinny like other celebrities. If you are tryig to lose weight, don’t lose weight so you can be stick thing. Look at valerie, that’s the way to go. She is getting so much positive feedback on her body. Remember, you don’t have to look sickly like a stick figure. I greatly admire Valerie and I love the way she looks. Good job well done. You don’t have to be anorexic or bulimic to look good.

To the ones complaining about her face, she is not 17 or 18 like you are all used to seeing her. She is 48 and it comes with the territory, I still think she looks great. I heard on tv that she had MINIMAL AIRBRUSING. Read the story again, she really works hard at it and she also does 100 situps or crunches a day along with her walking and other workouts. I give Valerie alot of credit, give credit where credit is due instead of knocking someone down who has struggled with a weight problem. I don’t have a weight problem, but I still encourage people that are trying to lose weight. dedication and hard work i guess. And I like the fact that she doesn’t look anorexic, she has curves in all the right places, that’s the way too look instead of rail thin. she looks good.

I mean maybe in person the lust factor would increase but this photo doesnt do her any justice. The face is weird looking and the body is just decent for 48. Whats all the hype about?

I think there is way too much emphasis these days on just the weight loss that makes people look good and a lot less on the genetics, physical and/or emotional reasons why people gain weight in the first place. Does Valerie look great? You bet she does, but there seems to be more focus on her looks. But one has to take into consideration that that side of things is all about making money. Valerie was my fantasy girl growing up. She has always been beautiful in my opinion with or without the weight, but without is much more healthier physically and emotionally for her and that should be the main focus here.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but her face looks a bit scary - stressed, tired, gaunt. I’m all for healthy weight loss & it should be for the right reasons. I hope Val knows her value within - whether fat or thin.

INTO YOUR LIPS, STRAIGHT TO YOUR HIPS. It sounds so simple, yet it is hard to do. A friend of mine would always use that phrase to try and lose weight and she did lose 30 pounds and it was a struggle for her.

It doesn’t cost money to lose weight, it’s willpower but that willpower is hard. You will save money by not eating as much.

It would be nice to have a weight loss program when you are trying to lose weight to encourage you.

I totally understand that some people have medical problems like thyroid problems or medications that causes them not to be able to lose weight. My neighbor takes a medication that causes her to gain weight. It is so hard for her to lose weight.

I wish all the people that are trying to lose weight the best. I also have family members that are tring to lose weight and they tell me it’s very difficult trying to do it on your own.

Seeing Valerie lose all that weight is inspirational. She looks good for being in her late forties.

Geez Louise!

I am impressed! She looks a lot better shape than a lot of women HALF her age.

Valerie, you are one HOT babe. Keep up the good work. You have shown that it CAN be done!
