Successful Surgery for Robin Williams

Funnyman Robin Williams is recovering nicely from heart surgery. Reps for the comedian tell "Extra" that Robin is resting comfortably after the valve job -- and have released the following statement from his doctors:

"Mr. Williams' operation went extremely well and we expect him to make a full recovery. The 3-1/2-hour heart surgery was conducted to replace his aortic valve, repair his mitral valve, and correct his irregular heartbeat," said A. Marc Gillinov, M.D., a staff cardiothoracic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. "His heart is strong and he will have normal heart function in the coming weeks with no limitations on what he'll be able to do."

Williams also released a statement regarding his surgery and the doctors who have treated him at the Cleveland Clinic. "The professionals at the University of Miami Hospital and ultimately at the Cleveland Clinic were all fantastic," said Williams. "I can't thank them enough for their kindness and dedication while I was in their care. I must also thank all the people who have expressed their love and concern for me. I have been deeply touched by their support."

The actor added jokingly, "I got some great new material for the tour and can't wait to get back on the road. I'm thinking the next leg of the tour will be 'Weapons of Self-Destruction and Reconstruction!'"

Robin's one-man comedy show, "Weapons of Self-Destruction," is scheduled to resume in the fall.

I’m so happy Robin is doing well after his surgery. I feel like I’ve known him for a long time.. In fact, we are connected by the 6 degree rule. So take the time you need to recover, because we need you Robin. May God Bless!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! MY HUSBAND USED TO WORK AT THE CLEVELAND CLINIC AND I WAS A PATIENT WHOSE LIFE WAS SAVED THERE. I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN ITALY. I WAS FLOWN HOME TO CLEVELAND WHEN I WAS UNCONCIOUS FOR THEIR HELP SINCE THE DOCTORS IN ITALY WERE TOO UNTRAINED TO HELP ME. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!
