'Extra' Lifechanger on the Richardson Injury

Condolences continue to pour in for Natasha Richardson's loved ones. Meanwhile, new reports are shedding light on the freak skiing accident that took her life.

Several reports now say that the time between the accident and Richardson's arrival at the hospital was nearly four hours -- longer than had been originally reported.

"Extra" Lifechanger and neurosurgeon Dr. Neil Martin explains that if Richardson had been treated earlier for her injury, the accident might have ended differently. "Had she been evaluated by a doctor -- and gotten a CT scan -- it's possible that something might have been found that could have been corrected."

The doc also listed the telltale signs of a potentially life-threatening head injury. "Disorientation... you don't know what day of the month it is... what week it is... or where you are... completely disorganized speech," Neil said, adding, "a headache that's getting worse and worse and worse... or severe nausea and vomiting -- repetitive vomiting."

Plans for Natasha's memorial services are currently underway at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home. There is no word yet when the service will take place.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Natasha Richardson during this heartbreaking time. We have an 11 year old and a 9 year old and are devastated for the loss the boys are suffering. To the precious boys, stand fast, be brave and find courage in the love your mother will always have for you both and know someday you will see her again. Until then may God’s grace surround you every minute of every day.

unfortunately for natasha, she refused the instructor’s advice to seek medical help, she turned the ambulance away. one can’t really blame the quebec medical system when the patient refuses treatment. a neuro surgeon was cited as saying that even if they did a CT scan, the bleeding may still not have been spotted.

i think those experts, pundits, reporters etc. who are quick to blame should take a deep breath and admit that it was just a tragic accident. she fell on a beginner’s hill, not like she went flying into a tree!

if her tragic death teaches us anything, it’s that firstly : that head traumas should never be taken lightly. I prob. would have reacted like natasha in her situation…; secondly that accidents happen quick . wear you helmet when riding bike or skiing…or in some states …on a motorcycle..

I was very sad to hear of the tragic death of Natasha. But even though the lights have gone out on Broadway for a minute, the light that is Natasha will forever shine in the hearts and souls of her family. She will always be beside them as the love she gave in life will be there in all her loved ones hearts. She was a gift given to them to have and enjoy, now her journey is over to live through them. God bless her family and keep them safe and strong at this time and think of all the happy things they did together. Love is to share and that is what she did. God take care of her precious spirit, and give her family the strength to go on. Love never dies, it stays within us.

Dear Liam and Family

You should always think about the happy times that you had with Natasha. I saw her in Parent Trap and I loved her. May you take peace in knowing that god takes only the good ones in to heaven. He took an Angel into his arms with him. I will always pray for you during this hard time. I hope that the boys will turn out to be just as sweet and loving as Natasha was. If the boys turn out to be like her I think that she would be very Happy. Maddie .H

Dear Liam and family,

Nine Years ago on March 6 I too had take my 28 yr old husband off life support due to brain death from a freak skiing accident. At the time I was 7 1/2 mths pregnant with a 20 mth old at home. Absolutely no one can know the feeling of that life altering day until they go through it. Keep one thing in mind, remember her life and cherish the closeness you and your boys had with her. You are blessed you had the time you did and your boys had the love and nourishing they did with Natasha. My daughters never had the many important milestone and momments in life with their dad. I truly feel for you and can honestly say I understand and know what you are going through. You will cry and mourn but LIVE for her, she is alive in your children and friends.

I tried hard to get a helmet law passed after my husbands death but I was pushed away, my case thrown out of court because of the many loophools and I had no celebrity. I was even told I was a nobody and until many more people die this way the laws will never change.. Maybe they will see now, things need to change. Sonny Bono, Michael Kennedy, your beloved Natasha and my family’s celebrity - Joseph 28 yrs old.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Suzanne R. - a fan, and mouner for your loss.

She wasn’t transported to Montreal for about 4 hours. That’s because she was taken to the hospital closest to Mont Treblant first THEN to the Montreal hospital.
