Church Plans to Protest at Richardson's Funeral

0321funeral.jpg

Members of a Topeka, Kansas Baptist church say they are traveling to Millbrook, NY to protest actress Natasha Richardson's funeral.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports the Westboro Baptist Church posted its plans on their website. They say they're picketing because Richardson supported research for a cure for AIDS. The small Kansas church has protested schools, colleges, churches, and other funerals.

Richardson became a speaker and activist in the fight against AIDS after her father, producer/director Tony Richardson, died from the disease in 1991. The actress also served on the board of trustees for the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

On Friday, local police said they are preparing for traffic and crowds for the funeral on Sunday. First Sgt. Eddie Moore tells the Journal, "We intend to be a presence in the area."

Richardson and husband Liam Neeson were residents of New York's Hudson Valley for more than 15 years. The couple married in 1994 at their Town of Washington home, about 85 miles outside of New York City.

What everybody needs to do is to flood the church with emails protesting their disgusting disreguard against the deceased.

It just makes me so mad that these christians are willing to do something so hateful in the time of mourning for the family.

How can this church be so cruel and twisted in their way of thinking, I don’t understand it myself.

I hope they get Karma and they go straight to hell for doing such an uncalled act.

That’s a christian for ya, thinking they are above God’s law.

These people are an embarrassment to society. Leave the family in peace. Supporting AIDS research is a noble cause. I like what somebody else commented earlier, use the money to feed local starving kids/families or something. Geez, give it a rest already.

As Aids, hepatitis C, and other diseases have been viewed by many “Christians”
as the Leprosy of our times, did not Jesus walk forth and touch the skin of the leper with his hands, thus healing him? What many Christians have forgotten is the basic quality of compassion and love- not derision and hatred.

My husband and I married in 1994. So I know the love and feelings you share with each other after 15 years together. My thoughts and all my love is with her family in these sad and difficult times. No matter the bad, the good times out weigh them all. No matter what everyone tells you, it just does’nt help the pain everyone is going threw. Time is what heals us all and the memories of the wonderful times they shared together. I’m so sorry for your loss she will always be remembered as one of the most beautiful and graceful actresses of all times. But most of all as a wife and mother. All my thoughts and love to all of you. Lynda

How much more misery has to be inflicted by this pond life Phelps family before something is done about it? Personally, I can’t believe they are still alive.

“These churches” alluded to by a previous post appear to be just one church and what they say and do are the total antithesis of Christian teaching. Anyone who believes these people have anything to do with authentic Christian belief needs to read the Gospels. In fact, recorded in the Gospels are words our Lord Jesus spoke to a self-righteous, judgmental group of people very similar to the people who belong to this church. His words indicate where He, Jesus, stands on such attitudes and actions: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!…”Woe to you, blind guides!…”You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?” Bottom line…in Jesus, God commends His LOVE toward us, not hate, and He demonstrates little patience with those who propagate hate toward others in His name. May the family of Natasha Richardson experience His Divine love and peace in a special way during this time.

The Westboro Baptist Church is not a Christian group, it is a well-known hate group (see the Anti-Defamation League or the Southern Poverty Law Center for details. Members have ‘protested’ at the funerals of US soldiers and the victims of gay-bashings. It is telling that their website is titled ‘God hates f**s’. They are a group of disgusting, twisted, hateful & sick people. I hope the police will keep these terrible people well away from Mr. Neeson and his family.

I am beginning to feel embarrased that I was brought up Baptist. It is ridiculous and non Christian for anyone to protest at a funeral. I think it is downright evil. Lots of people are affected by AIDS and are not homosexual and it has nothing to do with sin. AIDS is a disease that we need to find a cure for. These people should not be so blatantly ignorant and evil.

Real Christians do not vent their anger on vulnerable people and show respect for the mourning. How dare they call themselves Christians when they do the opposite of Christianity? SHAME ON THEM.

I guess their Bible omitted the verse, he who is without sin may cast the first stone. How incredulous that these self appointed hypocrites can slander Christianity in what can only be called self serving egos, another sin. All sin is equal in the Bible. The best thing to do is completely ignore them and give them no attention or publicity. That is all they wany anyway.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Natasha’s family. This is a tragic and untimely loss. I will also pray for those Kansas sinners who carry such a heavy burden of being self appointed saviors.

How horrible. Whether or not you believe that being gay is fine or it’s a sin, supporting research to develop a cure for AIDs is certainly an admirable cause. While it is not the case of Natasha Richardson’s father, many people got AIDs in ways that have nothing to do with being a homosexual.

Also, could these people protest another time? Perhaps while she was alive would have been a better time. She was a wife, mother, and friend. Let those people bury her in peace.

What is this world coming to…leave the family bury their loved one in peace…protest about something like…no religion being taught in homes or respect for others in general..oh, wait that is just what they plan to do at her funeral/burial…it is a real shame on you…Jesus would not think very highly of you…what a dirty shame…just because she helped a cause for Aids…wouldn’t that be the Christian thing to do..help others as Jesus taught us?!!!!

Jesus would be appalled at what these cretins are doing in his name.

In an ironic twist, these so called “Christians” have actually brought more attention to the continued need for AIDS research by planning this needless, hateful, self-serving protest. Since AIDS has been “controlled” by drug advancements in recent years, the support for research seems to have fallen out of the limelight. However, MORE research needs to be done in order to completely eradicate this horrible disease.

Therefore, THANK YOU to these ignorant Christians for bringing the spotlight onto themselves and reminding the general public that AIDS is still prevalent and in need of progressive research.

Let us be TRUE Christians and NOT cast hate upon these twisted people. Doing so would be stooping to their level.

Instead, let us honor and remember Natasha Richardson by showing our support towards a cause she cared for deeply—AIDS Research and other AIDS related causes. AIDS is NOT a gay cause by the way…It is a HUMAN cause.

God bless the Richardson and Neeson family.

It is Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. Apparently, they believe that they are “above” the rest of us.

these so called “christians” are wasting thier time and money by protesting. absolutely nothing positive is to be gained by thier actions. Why would anyone protest the beliefs of a deceased person? They just want to use the media attention from Natasha’s funeral to get media attention for thier anti gay beliefs. The media should refuse to talk about them or show them on TV. DON’T give them what they want! The police and security should make sure that these people are stopped or are so far away they cant be seen or heard.

To the Neeson & Richardson Family,

They say there are never losses only blessings and even though Natasha’s passing is a great loss remember that it was a blessing to have her in your lives even though you thought it would be longer.

she will be missed by many.

You have got to be kidding me, why doesn’t this church take all the money they are spending on a trip to New York and do something IMPORTANT like feed hungry kids!? Whether you agree with her decision to support AIDS research or not, let the woman and her family rest in peace. Shame on all of these ‘so called’ Christians.

How could anyone protest during such a heart felt time…those people should be arrested so that they literally pay for their insensitivity. In stead they should be hoping for a cure so that this problem is no longer a problem…many people have gotten this disease through blood transfusions or through a sexual partner who does not care about other and choose to pass the death sentence on to others or at least make them bare part of the burden….and they call themselves christians

Baptists are very different than many Christians. Which is why I’m Lutheran!
