Church Plans to Protest at Richardson's Funeral

0321funeral.jpg

Members of a Topeka, Kansas Baptist church say they are traveling to Millbrook, NY to protest actress Natasha Richardson's funeral.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports the Westboro Baptist Church posted its plans on their website. They say they're picketing because Richardson supported research for a cure for AIDS. The small Kansas church has protested schools, colleges, churches, and other funerals.

Richardson became a speaker and activist in the fight against AIDS after her father, producer/director Tony Richardson, died from the disease in 1991. The actress also served on the board of trustees for the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

On Friday, local police said they are preparing for traffic and crowds for the funeral on Sunday. First Sgt. Eddie Moore tells the Journal, "We intend to be a presence in the area."

Richardson and husband Liam Neeson were residents of New York's Hudson Valley for more than 15 years. The couple married in 1994 at their Town of Washington home, about 85 miles outside of New York City.

These so called baptists are really cults, hiding behind the baptist church.

I once did go to a baptist country church and they were the most loving giving people. They fed the poor, visited sick ones in the hospital.

These idiots are a cult and they need to be stopped. christians don’t behave that way. They might be terrorists in diguise. SHAME ON THEM.

They have all the characterics of a Satanic church. May they all burn and rot in hell for their awful tactics.

Bless the family of Nastasha and keep the safe from these lunatics.

How evil can so-called Christians be to protest at a funeral where family and friends are mourning. I am a Christian. These people are wacky nuts. We have to ignore crazy people like these idiots! THEY ARE NOT CHRISTIANS, THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO PERFORM HATE CRIMES

Shame on those “Baptists”. They are judgemental, hypocritical, and shameless. They are exploiting a tragic death for their shameful publicity seeking purposes. The devil will chase them to hell. There is no place in heaven for people like them. No place at all. And they are passing on their bigotry, ignorance, and hate to their children.

What about being Pro-Life. Doesn’t that include all life? My interpetation of the Bible sure is different that theirs and I am a Christian. M gay son is a Christian also. Spend you money on helping children not on disrupting. God help them see that they are not following his word.

I believe in God, but I think these Church fanatics have sipped too much wine. She was a good person and AIDS affects all kinds of people. And just because someone has AIDS does not mean they got it from being gay and if they are gay so what. God loves all his children and gay people are not sinners. They are good people and often have bigger hearts than many straight individuals. So you people from that Church it says in the Bible that only those without sin can cast the first stone and I guarantee most of you have worse things in your closet than most of us. You guys are hypocrites. Look at what you are doing wrong as opposed to what others do. I hope Natasha haunts all of you and scares you s***less before she rests in peace. Liam, Daniel, Michael, Joely, and Mrs. Redgrave you are in my prayers and I hope Natasha’s funeral is elegant and beautiful as she was in life.

The family of Natasha is going through the awful grief of a sudden death. It shouldn’t matter what she stood for, it should matter that she, indeed, stood for something. If these people don’t agree, so be it, but leave the family alone, leave the town of Millwood and go back to where you came from and mind your own damn business.

I am just absolutely disgusted that they would even think about picketing anybody’s funerals, let alone someone as talented, as friendly, as loving, as caring, and as beautiful in every way as Natasha Richardson. Whatever their definition of “love” is, it is not in any way what the bible says love is. How DARE they call themselves Christians.

Thank GOD im NOT an athiest, and SHAME on Westboro church…again!! These people have NO clue about God, God’s LOVE, and what it means to be a TRUE Christian! Westboro Baptist Church are some of the most evil and hateful people i’ve ever heard of in my entire life. I hope and PRAY that you PLEASE read Corinthians 13-1-2 and realize that you are deeply grieving the Holy Spirit by your behavior. The most important thing to remember is something that is so obviously void from your lives…LOVE! God Bless the family and friends of Natasha Richardson and may God please comfort them in this difficult time.

Phelps is akin to Jim Jones and David Koresh—just another false prophet terrorizing innocent people in the name of religion. He has done nothing but damage in his life and as does someone filled with hate and fear of what he—in his vast ignorance—doesn’t understand. You have to wonder what made Phelps the way he is. He is damaged and that is why he seeks to damage others. There will come a day when he will go too far in his attempts to damage others and the damage will be his. Just like Jim Jones and David Koresh. The sad thing is the degree of pain that he will have caused and the souls he will have twisted along the way. It is people like him that have cured me of belief in the superstitious nonsense called religion. It’s a rock that these insects hide under until they’re ready to sting. What a waste of oxygen. I hope the Richardson family will ignore them. That is the most powerful statement they can make—that these tiny, tiny people with their tiny minds simply don’t matter.

I grew up in Missouri and there is a reason why I left this narrow minded, bigoted part of the country. Baptists are the most fearful, superstitious, back water, unenlightened ignorant people in the country (next to the white supremacists—who are also probably Baptists). If this is religion, I want no part of it. Leave this family alone. You mean nothing to them. Nor does your hateful prejudice mean anything to them. Let them grieve their loved one—a classy woman who actually tried to help other people with an illness. All you do is spread hate and use your energy to hurt other people. Why don’t you actually do something good instead of telling other people how to live? Your just control freaks using the name of your God to further your own agenda of narrow minded oppression.

Westboro Baptist Church members are cowards. They protest at funerals, where the intended target is no longer living.

I would like to apologize to anyone who is not a Christian on behalf of this group of people who consider themselves Christian. I apolgize that they have misrepresented God’s people. They are very confused and lost the center of the teachings of Christ, for He came to save those which is lost. Remember His time on earth and whom He choose to hang out with (prostitutes, bribers, drunkards, the sick and dying) much like Mrs. Neeson did in her crusade for those suffering with the humiliating and crippling disease known as AIDS. Jesus Loved her and she can meet Him knowing she did her best for those suffering on this earth WITHOUT judging them! RIP Natasha. God Bless and comfort her family!

Out of curiosity, I looked up the website of the “Christian” group, I cannot call it a church. They are the antithesis of everything that is Christian. People with values like these are evil promoting evil. What so many decent people pray and work for that is uplifting to humanity, these fools seek to destroy. I hope that the police will keep them far away from this beautiful, greiving family. It is also hard for me to believe that papparazzi would yell out, “hey, Liam, over here,” to a grief stricken husband, just for a photo op. We must all stand up to those who condemn and exploit and raise our collective voices against them and for these honorable people. I hope that everyone who lives in the area of the funeral forms a human chain to shield the family and friends of Ms. Richardson from these bigots.

And they call themselves “Christians”.

What Richardson did was the true meaning of Christianity.Fred Phelps and his clan will have a special place in Hell.

They just don’t know it.

In 1991, on March 23, I lost my husband of 25 years from illness. It is hard, but you will be able to live again…the memories are there and they can not be taken from you or your boys!! There is so much support out there for you and the all the family, just absorb it and let it sustain you…
