test post
I am raising a child that has a mother who is from the life of drugs and prostitution. He has lot’s of concerns.
Almost 3-years ago, while working during the day & taking 1 or 2 college courses at night, I met with a counselor to determine which courses to pursue. During our meeting, the counselor asked if I’d be willing to take some tests, & I thought…sure, why not. When I returned for the results, she said they clearly confirmed that I had ADHD & most likely OCD.
I just broke down & cried. At 63 years of age, I finally discovered WHY!!! To give an example of how I showed up for others - my favorite aunt told me, before she passed away that, she & my uncle always dreaded coming to our home for holidays etc. when my siblings & I were growing up, because she always knew I was going to act out & ruin it for everyone.
After graduating from high school I had several failed relationships including friendships, 3-failed marriages, job losses & continuous time management issues. The most difficult part of all was when my 3 amazing, wonderful children, one aby one, stopped any communication with me. It began with my oldest daughter in 2000.
Following the discovery of my learning disability, I contacted my doctor & after determining the right medication & dosage, my own life has begun to become so much more clear & productive.
The one issue that remains unresolved, is any communication with my children. My sister & brother spend time & the holidays with them (including my 3-grandchildren, one I’ve never met), however, I’m still not invited. My sister & brother just change the subject when I ask for any details.
I can only continue to believe that someday there will be an opportunity to let them know I sincerely love them & am so very proud of all three of them for their strength & greatness. And finally, the opportunity to apologize to each one for not being able to provide them with the caring supportive parent they rightfully deserve.
i have add 27/m and have a son that will be 6yrs old. i am currently unemployed and i am experiencing extreme stress to the point that my muscles in my body are sore and tense and i have isolated my self from everyone. Is this extreme stress to the point of feeling literal sedation normal? what can i do to recover from this?? any advice as to why and what to do to change this?
I have a son (25) with ADD. He was diagnosed at 8 and then reevaluated at 18 before entering college and the diagnosis was exactly the same. He takes medication for it and has had it under control for years, but can not handle things normally without the meds. He did very well in school, went on to college and now owns his own business! Never in trouble and is straight edge!! I was very lucky, but it took a lot of hard work and dedication. There can be a very positive outcome!! I would love to be able to tell everyone our story, since every thing out there you read is so negative!! Doesn’t have to be!!Hang in there!! P.S. His Father has ADD!!
