Fairchild: Chimp's Death a 'Sin'

0218fairchild.jpg

Morgan Fairchild says the chimpanzee that mauled a woman and was later killed by authorities was "the sweetest little thing... He would play around with you. He was like a little kid on the set."

Morgan starred alongside Travis the chimpanzee in Old Navy commercials -- and was shocked to hear her one-time co-star was shot after attacking his owner's friend. "It is a shame. It is a sin that this animal had to be destroyed," she declared.

Insisting he never showed any aggression on set, "The Steam Room" star told us, "This would be very out of character."

Remembering Travis, Fairchild said, "I have a great still photograph of us sitting there with his arm around me just being absolutely adorable like your average 5-year-old."

The 200-pound chimp attacked Charla Nash, 50, on Monday, leaving her in critical condition. Owner Sandy Herold, 70, said the chimp was like a child to her.

F&^* that monkey. I would have shot his legs out from under him, then ripped his face off while he lay there bleeding out. Face for a face. P&*&ies want to cry for a murderous baboon? You are lucky he got put down easy like he did. A woman’s face gets ripped off around here by a chimp… it will be a few days of skinning monkey alive and cauterizing the wounds to keep him alive through it all. Wake up, dumb&*sses. We are top of food chain. Quit letting yourselves be attacked by vermin.

She should stfu about ‘a sin’ if it mauled her, she would say “SHOOT DA F#$&@N THING!”

FYI: God was the first one to kill an animal by clothing Adam and Eve. So it’s not correct in any sense to use a judeo/christian term like “sin” to describe the killing of the chimp. Chimpanzees are animals not people. And there’s nothing “humane” about nature, in case you’ve missed every nature show on the discovery channel. People come before animals and if you feel differently, you have no right as a member of human society. If the cops had felt that way, it could any of you losing your hands and eyes to this chimp in another incident. Animals are amazing but keep wild animals in the wild and adore them on television or at the zoo.

Lisa:
Read the following Quote:
“The police captain also said this isn’t the first interaction his officers have had with Travis — the chimp escaped in 2003 and “wreaked havoc” on the streets of Stamford for a couple of hours.”

Obviously you don’t know as much as you think you do!! Do you even realize how insane you sound?

Why do people listen to boneheads like celebrities who have no common sense or connection with reality? Chimps are NOT people, I don’t care WHAT you believe about Darwin or not! I DO NOT GO INTO PUBERTY AND EAT PEOPLE, OR MY OWN SPECIES WHEN I GET MAD, OR HUNGRY OR THREATENED. And why do people keep acting like he was a child. The owner was a complete NUTCASE who let the chimp sleep in bed with her, he brushed her hair at night (THAT’S NORMAL)and they have removed it now, but there WAS a picture of her kissing him on the lips like he was her MATE or something. Wow. OH YEAH, and btw, the owner was interviewed and said if she had it to do all over again, she wouldn’t do anything different! Nothing was wrong with owning a jungle animal! Morgan, maybe you should spend a little time hosing down cages in the zoo if you are such a compassionate person!

I think Miss Fairchild should run a shelter for these misunderstood face-eating chimps. We all know that animals respect and love celebrities.

A lady is in critical condition and it was a sin to kill the chimp. Morgan is an old woman and her mind is warped, and also the owner of the chimp, she slept with him the chimp. I am concerned about the woman that was attacked, she may not have a face after all this. The owner should have sent the chimp packing to a zoo or sancturary for chimps. Morgan is way out of line, it’s not her face that was destroyed, what does she care.

Morgan, your freaking dumb!
boo freaking hoo. The police needed to shoot that crazed animal. It nearly killed that lady, and was going after them. The chimp aka Travis should never have been kept in the house. Its a wild animal. The chimp was 200 pds. and it took several stabs from a BUTCHER KNIFE, to even be threatened a little. The owner is a nut and she now has it on her hands of what happened to her friend.
Morgan, just cry about it alone why dont you, wild animals are not children and just think about it, how would you feel if that was your freaking plastic surgery attacked face !

MORGAN, poor poor Morgan…(sniff)…
nobody really cares WHAT you think about this vicious attack!
(a) It has NOTHING to do with you!
(b) This CRAZY Chimp attacked a woman in 1996, biting her on the hand and drawing blood
(c) Mr. Nutty-the-chimp was living ILLEGALLY in that house
(d) the pinheaded owner gave this wrecking machine XANAX prior to him freaking the hell out and attacking that poor woman
(e) IF YOU WANT TO HELP THIS VICTIM then STFU Morgan and reach out to HER (the victim), NOT the Damned CHIMP! Please stay hidden in the Hollywood hills where you belong.
(f) Lastly, yeah yeah yeah…we all know it’s NOT the poor chimps fault, etc.. BUT THIS IS NOT ABOUT HIM Morh-GO !
(g) People - PLEASE…ENOUGH with the friggin exotic pets! You DONT need Chimps & Tigers in your living room, adopt a friggin housecat or a dog and REMEMBER TO GET THEM SPAYED / NEUTERED.

I agree that the owner should have used better judgement, but I disagree with Mrs. Fairchild and others who think it was a sin to kill the chimp. The cops did what they had to to keep from getting hurt themselves and to take control of the situation. And those of you that “feel even worse for the chimp”, you make me sick. Yes, this chimp should have been kept in its natural habitat, but for God’s sake you should feel worse off for the lady who was severely hurt and maimed for life. I think the chimp is coming out ahead in this situation.
And thanks to those who made intelligent remarks.

“Responsible primate-owner” is an oxymoron. You. CANNOT. Tame. Wild. Animals. No one knows chimps more than Jane Gooddall and she wouldn’t keep a chimp around the house. What set off the chimp is not the issue here! It took several STABBINGS from a kitchen knife, a shovel to the head, and several SHOTS of bullets at close range, and the chimp still ran away to die in the house! If Jason and Freddie were on scene Travis would’ve bit their faces off too! Keeping a 200-lb male chimp with canines like a wolf’s is like letting a cougar or tiger roam free in the neighborhood. People who think you can safely keep a wild animal don’t actually love animals for their true nature.

Wild chimpanzees hunt monkeys, chew off body parts, including faces and limbs, and eat them. They will sometimes attack a mother chimp, rip her baby from her arms, and eat it. In Africa, wild chimps have attacked women to steal their babies and eat them.

Travis was getting food in a normal fashion for a grown chimpanzee. Killing and eating other primates is normal behavior for adult wild chimpanzees..

Of course the chimp was cute and sweet when Ms Fairchild made the commercial with him. He was a baby then.

When chimps grow up, they aren’t so sweet anymore. And it’s nearly impossible to give an adult chimp away - they cost a fortune to take care of, and zoos don’t want a chimp who doesn’t know how to behave with his fellow chimps.

Thank God, Ms. Fairchild is in a position to comment she’s right. It is a sin. I only hope and pray for all those involved and that people take solace in knowing that God will comfort if you let him. There are those who believe all God’s creatures including animals go back to Him and are in His care after this life. Please let this comfort you

Hey Morgan

If this woman had a 15-year old human son who was viciously attacking the victim, would she be telling 911 to have the cops “shoot him”? For all intents and purposes, this Chimp WAS her son, as he was raised and treated as such. How could she be so quick to want him shot dead? This Chimp should NEVER have been kept in captivity like this to begin with. Chimps are not meant to be pets. The cops should have come prepared to shoot him with a tranquilizer gun as a first resort, and he should have then been removed from the house and sent to live in a sanctuary. He was killed for doing what he was supposed to do by instinct and nature. We do not know what set him off but we should give him the benefit of the doubt. This woman’s actions are just another perfect example of human beings being irresponsible and selfish creatures. That poor Chimp did not have to die like that.

I’ve done as much research as I could about the incident and all I can say is something is missing from this owner’s story. SOMETHING PROVOKED THIS CHIMP!!! Yes , it is wild, but this chimp also drank wine, clothed, bathed, watched tv with a remote, and used a pc.

I don’t believe that it just attacked for no reason. i do know that it escaped and it occured outside, where it was shot multiple times at point blank range in the police car it entered, and before it died it ran back inside and died in its room. Maybe, it got lose at fault of the owner, panicked with a controlled substance in its body, (that in some people can work adversely and cause excitement & confusion) and attacked.

I believe the lady that got attacked is a victim and the Chimp is just as much a victim. It just may be the owner has a screw loose or maybe two. Who know’s what really triggered the incident???

A huge part of the problem is that the advertising and entertainment business keeps seeking out infant chimpanzees because the public likes to laugh and ad agencies think they sell products. Rather than commenting on Travis as a sweet chimp, I would think that Morgan Fairchild could use her experience and influence to vow not to work with great apes again in the entertainment business! If responsible actors refuse to be part of the practice, then the future of those working infant chimpanzees won’t be in jeopardy… or put innocent victims like Charla Nash and the other attack victim from 4 years ago (St.James Davis) in life-threatening situations. Morgan Fairchild still has her pretty face… what about Charla Nash?
