Eight Oscars Go to... 'Slumdog'!

From the slums of Mumbai to the hills of Hollywood -- "Slumdog Millionaire" went from almost being released straight to DVD -- to winning eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director Danny Boyle.

"We've been on an extraordinary journey," producer Christian Colson said when accepting the film's award. Colson, onstage with many involved in creating "Slumdog," thanked the people who believed in the sleeper flick that became an international sensation.

Six-time Oscar nominee Kate Winslet took home the Best Actress statuette for her work in the WWII epic, "The Reader." The actress, shaking with emotion, was humble and humorous in her acceptance speech. "I'd be lying if I said I hadn't made a version of this speech when I was eight years old speaking into the bathroom mirror, holding a shampoo bottle," Winslet joked, before thanking her family, co-workers and fellow nominees.

"Milk" star Sean Penn took home the Best Actor award for his portrayal of gay politician and activist Harvey Milk. "I know how hard I make it to appreciate me" Penn said while accepting his Oscar, laughing. Sean's speech turned serious when he expressed gratitude for his win -- and drove home the message of equality that "Milk" represented, saying, "We've got to have equal rights for everyone."

THERESA- MAYBE YOU SHOULD MAKE A PETITION WITH ALL OF YOUR NEIGHBORS/COUSINS TO MAKE A NEW CATEGORY…MAYBE THEY COULD CALL IT ” THE MOVIE MOST LOVED BY REDNECKS”….THAT WAY THE REST OF THE WORLD WOULDN’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO REDNECKS COMPLAIN ABOUT SLUM DOG WINNING WHEN IT WAS CLEARLY THE HANDS DOWN WINNER…OR MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST STICK WITH THE TEENS CHOICE AWARDS, IT SEEMS LIKE THAT WOULD BE MORE ON YOUR LEVEL..

I must be the only person in this country who did not like Slumdog Millionaire. Because I know that these horrendous things really do happen to children in India I almost walked out. I did stay to the end, but could not get those tortured children out of my mind.

Awhile back, angie was bragging that her and brad were Hollywood royalty, Guess what angie, Slumdog ARE hollywood royalty. Angie thought her and brad were going to win, well angie as the ole saying goes, “it’s better to have bird in hand than 2 birds in a bush.” And I was surprised that Mickey Rourke didn’t win..oh well, there’s always next year. The actress I like the most is Meryl Streep, that lady has talent!

No Theresa, I didn’t want to throw up at the screen. I am happy Slumdog won. Sean Penn, although not one of my favorite actors gave it his all in Milk. He is very talented. Kate Winslett is a very clever intelligent actress. I am glad that she won as I was happy for Penelope Cruz, and BTW, I loved her dress! Hugh Jackmon was a wonderful host. I hope they sign him up for next year. Go Slumdog,,,all the way.

The Oscars were great and Hugh was outstanding…he should do it next year too. It was great not to have someone making jokes and he was super. I am glad Slumdog won and I hope those kids get enough money to live on the rest of their lives.

The Oscars hmmmm I was upset!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugh Jackman was the best. I hate that Heath Ledger won for best supporting actor. Why ?? Iam sorry to say but he’s dead they should have gave it to someone else. Penelope Cruz! Are you kidding me??? That was another mistake. Kate Winslet omg Angelina Jolie should have gotten that one and as for best actor iam ok with Sean but it would have been nice if it was Brad Pitt.
Hugh Jackmon second act should have been with a better preformer then Beyonce. Some one more alive and more sexy then her they should have went with Nicole Kidman!!!!!! But Jack was awesome.

Although the women looked great in Hollywood they need to put on some weight, as their bones are sticking up out of their sholders in the strapless dresses. Very unattractive! If they want to stay skinny, they should consider covering their sholders with something. They look like they are out of a war camp….

You go Slumdog,,glad you won, amazing that it was a low budget film and it turned out to be the bestest of the best. I look forward to watching any movie that they make. I loved watching the little children on the red carpet, they are all amazing. What a wonderful day for all Slumdog actors, the director, and the person or persons that wrote Slumdog. Happy,Happy!

theresa, I read your comments and you were right on. What are those judges on the oscar panel thinking??? I saw Benjamin Button with 48 of my coworkers and we were all very touched by the movie. My seniors church group also went and all 92 of them loved the movie so much that many stayed and saw it again. I saw Changling and Angelina was so moving in it that I cryed. Oh well, I am sure Brad and Angelina know what good actors they are, just like we know how lousy the judges are.

Okay, I’ve been tossing and turning all night long. I just have to get this out!!!

My husband and I watched the Oscar’s, it’s either what that or what re-runs or watch Thomas the tank engine DVD’s for the million, tillion time! So, we watched it. I was pissed off!!!

Hugh Jackman! OH MY GOODNESS! TOO FUNNY! He made the night great! If you listened closly at the opening acted…at the last lyric he says ” I am wolverine! ” That was too funny!

Okay, moving on why I am so pissed off! Here it goes…

Best Picture *drum roll*

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

*throws up*

Okay anyone else wanted to throw something at the screen??? Cause I did. I do, know that half of the stupid Oscar panel is about 45yrs or old and it pisses me off. Yes, I did say PISSED again cause I am!!! This movie; is based on a kid overseas growing up in troubled times, falls in love and she is gone. Then he finds her and looses her again to a situation. Then he uses his “life skills” to get on a game show and he wins with the help of his ” true love ” And that’s the movie!

WTF Is the panel thinking????? That deserves best picture? And we wonder why we are in the ecomony situation that we are! Because once again we stick are noses into something that has nothing to deal with us! IF we are going to start placing foregin films into the Oscars then why is there still a stupid foregin film awards? I know it’s not a ” foregin ” film but, this movie has nothing to do with American actors!!!!! Nothing to do with the Hollywood theme if you get what I am saying!

I haven’t seen the other movies on the panel up for the Oscars but, if you watch the trailers and watch all the tid bits you’ll start to see the big picture of what the movie is about and how stories can touch your life!!!!

I believe Frost/Nixon should have gotten the award or the Ben Button movie. WHY? Because of all the research, time, effort, depth and the right on the spot everything had to be to pull off a movie(s) such as these two did. I’m sorry but, I don’t want to got and watch the Reader about a young boy having a affair with a older women who is in the ARMY and did some horrible things that she kept to herself yet, to tell her young lover then is charged with a crime later down the road.

Anne Hathaway or Angelina Jolie should have won the award for best actress! Come on both where in two powerful movies!!! There have been ties before! Just, give the darn thing to them! But, no lets give it to Kate because well, because the old folks on the panel have the “hotts” for her!

Frost/Nixon, Milk or Ben Button should have gotten the award for best Director! COME ON ALREADY! Bloody hell, Broke Back Mountain got a few awards and it was about gay guys! Then Ben Button! Who doesn’t want to see a different take on growing younger than older! True to the touch of Frost/Nixon!

Music and song…No comment…I think I took a poop while that was playing!

Music (Score) I was well…finishing up in the bathroom!

Film editing: No questions ask should have been Batman!

Sound Mixing: Wanted or the Dark Knight

Visual Effects: I was going for everyone on that one! Too close! My little Alexander was screaming IRON MAN! IRON MAN!

Actor Supporting Role: *tears up* I didn’t want to cry and I was crying…Heath was there last night and I feel for his family..Having to hold back tears like all the actor friends of Heath. He did everything right to get this award! He was a brillant actor! I do hope in the next batman, they use him in it! Meaning pan to the islum and have him sitting in a patted room laughing! They can edit out him in the polic station and do a little touch up and you have Heath: The Best Twisted Joker ever! Congrats!

Cinematogopry: Sorry if I missed spelled that but, I believe Changeling should have one this one!

Make up: No brianer here! Ben Button got that one! Cause, we all know if they gave it to stupid Slumdog There would be protesting!

Costume Desgin; That was really hard and well, they gave it to the Duchess. I haven’t seen that film but, looks pretty good. Don’t think it should have been up there but, whatever.

Art Director: Ben Button. Just giving the award to the art director just says it all!

Animated Feature Film: WALL-E lol good movie and deserved to win!

Writing:Adapted: Should have went to Doubt, Frost/Nixon! What the F(*&@#&^ ARE THEY THINKING! I WROTE A MOVIE WHILE I WAS ON THE TOLIET CAN I GET AWARD?

Writing: Original Screen Play: I can’t believe I’m saying this but, In Burgess, Wall-E, or Milk. Why? Cause if you watch all them they set the semi tone of what comes together as a film.

Actress in a supporting role: Went to Penople Cruz. Why cause she spok 2 langauges in the film and was pissed off half of the time? Should have been: Viola Davis she from what I seen put everything into become that character. Mrs. Henson was terrific in playing the role as mum in Ben Button! I loved her in it. I haven’t yes, haven’t seen the movie but, as I said just watch reviews, tid bits and her character brightenss the sky. But, to my disspointment when to someone who just was pissed!

So, all in all I believe the awards where handed out because of all the hype of what everyone was saying. No one really connected to the movie and I truly believe the panel needs to understand what/how movie goers like US feel for a movie and not just them. I understand there are movie awards, people’s choice, teen choice awards etc But …BUT there needs to be a understanding that not everyone is going to pay 7.00 to see a kid win a million bucks! We want to see a drama, life touching moments, understandment between charcters etc. I give the Oscar’s a 4 1/2 out of 10 for the fact they over looked key elements/actors/actress in movies and the only thing worth watching last night was Hugh Jackman!
