Brown: 'Sorry and Saddened over What Transpired'

0208brown.jpg

Chris Brown has broken his silence about what went down with his girlfriend Rihanna the night before the Grammys -- and while the singer doesn't go into specifics about the alleged incident, Brown apologized for his responsibility in the argument.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person," Brown said in a written statement.

He added, "Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - A Muslim-American television executive accused of decapitating his wife remained jailed without bail Wednesday as his lawyer dismissed suggestions that culture played a role in the crime.

Muzzammil “Mo” Hassan, 44, appeared subdued during a brief appearance Wednesday in Orchard Park Village Court, where his lawyer waived his right to a felony hearing.

The beheaded body of Aasiya Hassan, 37, was found last week at the offices of Bridges TV, the Muslim-American television network the couple started to promote understanding between cultures. Hassan was arrested after walking into the police station in this Buffalo suburb Feb. 12 and telling officers his wife was dead.

Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said his officers had responded to domestic incidents involving the couple in the past. Aasiya Hassan had her husband served with divorce papers a week before her death.

“Culture, religion doesn’t play a role,” said defense attorney James Harrington, reacting to speculation that the crime may have been an “honor killing.” Experts say such killings are still accepted among fanatical Muslim men, including in the couple’s native Pakistan, who feel betrayed by their wives.

“It’s not an issue in this case,” said Harrington, who described the burly businessman as almost in shock.

“He has an almost blunted affect. He’s having difficulty coping with this,” the lawyer said.

The Islamic Society of North America issued a statement of condolence to Buffalo’s Muslim community and urged leaders to take a strong stand against domestic violence.

“Women who seek divorce from their spouses because of physical abuse should get full support from the community and should not be viewed as someone who has brought shame to herself or her family,” the statement by Imam Mohamed Hagmagid Ali said.

Erie County Assistant District Attorney Colleen Curtin Gable said Hassan is being held without bail pending possible grand jury action. He is charged with second-degree murder.

Security was tightened at the courthouse, with officers explaining that emotions had the potential to run high.

Bridges TV operated on television providers across the U.S. and Canada, but it stopped broadcasting after the killing. On Wednesday, the station’s interim general manager, Hunaid Baliwala, issued a statement saying the staff did not have access to its facilities. Baliwala indicated the station would return to the air, however, in honor of Aasiya Hassan, who got the idea to start it while listening to post-Sept. 11 media reports.

“The two biggest issues that we currently face at Bridges TV are the negative publicity generated by this domestic violence incident and the ongoing funding constraint,” Baliwala’s statement said.

Nancy Sanders, a former news director at the station, said Aasiya Hassan “didn’t want her children to be brought up in a world where every mention of a Muslim had some sort of terrorist connotation to it.”

“This woman in particular fought so hard to change the image of Muslims in America,” she said, “and how does she die? This brutal act at the hand of her husband. It just stuns me

can’t believe that anyone is taking Chris’s side, yes he is a great singer but failed in being a great human, yes everyone makes mistakes, that’s not a mistake, that was very mean and cruel, even if he had done that to any other human being, liking his looks and his voice is one thing but he should get his punishment for what he did, sorry is not good enough,if I were Rihanna, there would be no way that I would ever forgive him,NO WAY can I forgive violence in that way, slapping a woman or punching a woman is a big difference even if both are not acceptable(sorry my english sux)

I apologize for what may or may not have happened at some point in time, not necessarily caused by me or involving me.

I will not mention the name of anyone I am apologizing to, or what I am apologizing for, or even the date and time that it may or may not have happened, but rest assured I am seeking comfort in my pastor and my family.

Is it just me or is everyone defending Chris??? No matter the situation, a man should never hit a woman…NEVER!!! Jealousy and being hot-headed is not an excuse for a man to hit a woman. And to say he had to defend himself from her?? She’s a lil petite thing and he’s Chris Brown!! So your saying he had to resort to hitting and biteing her to defend himself?!? She must be a lot bigger in person or maybe she had a gun or she’s a black belt in some type of martial arts?!? Restraining her yes, I get that but biteing and hitting?? Come on!! He’s a punk…any man who hit’s a woman is a punk and a P****!!!

Why is everyone taking her side??? We don’t know the whole story yet…Its wrong to hit anyone..But from what i know she is not as innocent as she looks. I have a friend that has worked with her and said she is a hot head and very jealous…so i would believe would start something…If she hit him i believe he has the right to defend himself.

First and foremost im a woman so i don’t condone a man putting his hands on one, but what is the golden rule? Do unto others as you would want other to do unto you. Nobod knows exactly or what happen for that matter between Chris and Rihanna. So why is everyone taking her side? Second by law if you take something out of someones hand thats considered assult so if Chris was driving then since Rihanna took the key and threw them out the car that ment 1 she either snatched them from him, or 2 she took them out the ignition, which i find hard to believe. If that was the case he would have been able to prevent her from taking them out. Which only leaves one other senario…she took them out of his hand, so why havent so been in trouble for assult. Now im not one to take side, but its going too far, now there is celebs saying bad things about Chris i.g Jay-Z. If the D.A felt like it was all that its hyped up to be then they wouldnt have asked for futher investigation he would have been charged!!!. 3 i guess for Chris its really a Guilty until proven innocent huh? Thats a trip. Now he is losing all his endorsement, wrigley dropped him and they don’t know the whole story. Which is bull. Then when Chris finally issue a statement…its…oh hes too late. NEWS FLASH…he owes no explanation to no one but God. He don’t even have to speak on it. There is 2 sides to every story and we have only heard..through the grapevine..may i add. Rihanna side. If R.Kelly can mess with under-aged girls, and still have a chance, and the media and fans, and celebs dont down him then Chris should have that same chance. Now rumor is she gave him an s.t.d nobody know if thats the truth, but how would you react if someone told you that they gave you and s.t.d, then theres one of his breezies texed his phone and she snached it, goes back to the if you snatch, thats assult. As i Stated im not one to condone a man puttin his hands on a woman. but your parents teach you at a young age if someone hits you, hit them back. If that was the case then he should have hit her back, just because you’re a woman DO NOT mean in any way that you should be able to hit and not be hit back.Yes, if Chris choked her, and said he was going to kill her, he went way to far, but he do al least deserve fairness, because nnobody knows the truth except him, her ,and God!! Just keep your hands to yourself in the first place. So people just do unto others…yall know the rest. Just keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourself!!! Thats learned in Pre-K.

Yes,its true, Chris made a huge mistake, he shouldn’t have put his hands on Rihanna in the first place. No man has the right to hit a woman! People are saying that she provoked him, well, if she provoked him he should have walked away from her. Also what provoked Rihanna to provoke him? I hope he learned a good lesson! Voilence is never the way to go!
