Are You at Risk for MS?

I want to congratulate Nancy Davis on her presentation on Extra. In 2001 I first discussed with Nancy the use of Botox in MS. Besides getting rid of spasticity Botox had many unique uses in MS. I noted that when treating the frown it also got rid of the dizziness in one patient with MS.. Additionally, in 2002 I treated a patient’s crows-feet with Botox who could not focus her eyes and it stopped her uncontrollable
Eye motion. Nancy then allowed me to speak at her MS roundtable and the studies on Botox and MS would eventually take place…thank a million Nancy you are changing the world…. Arnold Wiliiam Klein MD

Hi Nancy,
I’m so interested in this Botox treatment.I was diagnosed with MS in 1984 at age 36. I’ve been on Avonex, Betaseron, etc. Currently using Copaxone, and have a pump filled every 3 months with Baclafin for spacity in both legs. Have no pain, just extreme rigidity in the legs and no balance. I walk with a walker in the house. Use a wheelchair for outings. Need help dressing. I would appreciate any information you could give me. I’ve already asked my neurologist to look into this. Thank you, Linda

I was formally diagnosed with MS in 2005, but my doctors had suspicions back in 2002. A few weeks ago I began having severe problems walking… spasticity on my left side was horrifically painful. My neurologist wanted to start another bout of IV-steroid treatments and mentioned the possibility of treating the spasticity issue with Botox. I’m not a person that likes to put medications into my system. If I can treat it holistically - I’m all for that. Thankfully I have a wonderful Chiropractic team. I went to him and said - “do whatever you might need to do, I’ll do whatever you say I should try - because if what you do doesn’t work, I’ll be back on IV-steroids.” He did some major adjustments - even working on my feet/toes - worked on stretching - boosted some of my vitamin intake - and I’m very happy to say that now two weeks later, it is much easier for me to walk and the pain has subsided quite a bit. I’m hopeful that with a few more treatments my issues will continue to improve. I highly suggest finding a good chiropractor in your area and trying it out. (Definitely call around and find one that is willing to spend the time working on stretching… not all of them are. A good chiro is a gold mine and not always easy to find.)

Hi, Nancy I was diagnosed with M.s. when I was 19 years old and I am now 33. Yes, at 19 it was a very life changing event for me. I have tried all the medications including Tysabri which landed me in the hospital and almost died twice. Since then I have had bad migraines and severe pain in my leg. I have been taking Botox for the migraines and it works great. My question to you is does the botox help get rid of the pain? Thank you, Cynthia Gilliam TX

Hi Nancy~
I just watched Extra’s segment on MS because my mother in Columbus, Ohio heard the promo yesterday and called me specifically to tell me to watch EXTRA; that they would be doing a story on Botox and M.S. My little brother, David who is now 46, was diagnosed when he was 30 with MS. He was doing okay until about 6 years ago when he went downhill quickly. He had taken the MS medications for a long time and then he got really sick. He is now at a nursing home in “long term care” and cannot do anything for himself. He started with Botox treatments injected into his upper arms and back last spring and we have noticed a difference in his tremors and muscle control. The doctor is Dr. Clairmont at Ohio State Medical Center. It was great to see Nancy talking about the benefits of Botox in MS patients. I just wish that the treatments could be used on David’s legs to allow him to walk…he is so weak.
Thanks again for bringing the news of Botox to the MS community.
Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Juli Dewar

I have had MS for 2 1/2 years. My neurologist suggested botox for my right calf for a muscle that tightened up and caused pain when I would walk. After about 3 days the pain was gone, it returned about a week later, then disappeared and has been gone for 3 months. Angie
