Swayze May Only Have Two Years

0107swayze.jpg

Patrick Swayze is opening up to Barbara Walters on tonight's "Patrick Swayze: The Truth" airing on ABC. The actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and has revealed he may have just two years to live.

Swayze, 56, says he surpassed survival rates, adding that he should have "been dead a long time ago." The American Cancer Society says pancreatic cancer has only a five percent, five-year survival rate. The majority of patients die within six months. "I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking. Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics.

Swayze continues to smoke cigarettes and has "cut back" -- quitting is not a "priority." He remains hopeful and denies reports he is on his death bed. "I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."

Doctors diagnosed Swayze with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008 and the cancer had already spread to his liver.

Barbara Walters' full interview airs tonight at 10:00 PM on ABC.

I’ve never posted a comment or sent a message to someone I did’nt know personally, but this is different. We named our son Dalton back in the mid 90’s because of the Road House movie we feel in love with.Again like you did in many other films, you brought to life a caracter we all felt we knew and loved. Thats your gift to all of us Patrick !!!! It’s something none of us will forget. My father was given 6 months to live with the same cancer, but showed all of us what a fighter and remarkable person he really was with a 3 1/2 year battle.”NEVER” give up !!! The doctors will tell you them selves they don’t know everything and a persons will and faith is stronger than any cancer will ever be.

I hope you read this FRIEND !!!

My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 6-1/2 yrs ago. Like Patrick, he led a valiant fight against the disease. He was given barely 5 years, but was able to fight the disease for 5-1/2 yrs. Its not an easy thing for a family to go through and even worse on the person with it.

My husband was hospitalized about 3 times a year that last two years for non-cancer related issues, even though most likely due to the cancer these issues arose. What I am saying is this is common and just because Patrick has pneumonia does not mean its the end for him. My husband was hospitalized twice for pneumona.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick and Lisa and I pray they never give up hope of a miracle.

Dear Mr. Swayze,
You blew me away tonight on the BW special! You’re spirit is a bright light, infused with great humor and a lot of love for life. You are an inspiration to me, and I can’t wait to watch “The Beast”. Please continue to give “it” (those nasty cells) HELL. There’s nothing I’d like to see more than for you to prevail, whether you view cancer as carrots and the chemo as hungry rabbits, whatever you have to do, I’d like to see you here on this planet with the rest of us for as long as possible. You and your wife (who’s spirit reminds me of my late, great, tough Aunt Georgia) are a lovely and loving presence, and God Knows, we need ya here, tough guy! Love, prayers and all the blessings your heart can hold,
Tracey H.

Thank you Patrick for you and your lovely wife being so open and honest with all of us out here that love you. It means more to me when you tell the truth from your heart and soul than watching these tabloids trying to tear you apart. You and your wife will be in my continual prayers. And thank you Barbara Walters for once again doing a special that shows the actual truth. For showing the very personal side of others going through so much in their lives. Patrick was so right when he said that he knew if he talked with you the truth would be shown. Thanks again.

My uncle who raised me died of liver cancer, your story reminded me of him. He was an ornery fighter, we lost him 7 years ago, and still miss him. Patrick sounded like such a fighter and I wanted to say, “Fight this!, don’t give up and I will keep you in my prayers.”
