VOTE: Arf! America's First Dog

0112dog.jpg

The people want to know: what kind of dog is the Obama family going to bring to the White House?

President-elect Barack Obama told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week" that the family has narrowed down their options. Obama revealed the pet will probably be a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Dog.

"Extra" wants to know what you think!

As long as it’s from shelter is good, if a mixed breed, it’s better. People are now indulged in Pedigree, it sometimes end up in suffering of the animal. Too many animals are dumped every year, let’s give them one more chance!

I have two Bichon Frise. They are very popular on the east coast. I see them everywhere in New York. They are a great size (the biggest are about 15-18 pounds). They don’t shed. They are lively, quick, smart, and what a personality. They are head turners and are a perfect size for kids to handle. Love those bichons!

I don’t care if the dog is a Labradoodle, Water Dog, or other as long as it is a shelter dog or rescue dog. Let’s see an example set and see a dog get “saved”.

my vote is for a Boxer. We just adopted our 3rd shelter Boxer (pure breed) 3 years ago & I think we got the better end of the deal. Hallie is a sweetheart!!! I have severe allergies & the boxer’s short hair is great for allergy sufferers! They don’t really shed & there’s no grooming involved. I think the first family would love a boxer!!!

I have a 2 yr old F1B Chocolate Labradoodle and she’s a wonderful dog. Very loveable, loves attention and by far a perfect fit for a family with children. She’s a full standard so she’s big..around 65 lbs. Labradoodles aren’t has hyper as people say. If they get the proper exercise they are very well behaved.

I think they should get a Portugeuse Water Dog, why settle for a cross of a cross. The Labradoodle is a Poodle/Lab cross whilst the Poodle is a Portugeuse Water Dog cross. The PWD does not shed, and is hypoallergenic whilst the Labradoodle MAY not shed. Why take the chance and hurt the children by having to ‘change’ pets later? The PWD is VERY people oriented, both loving the attention, and returning that attention.I could not think of a better more faithfull, loving, non agressive companion for the daughters.

Barack Obama and his wonderful family should choose a Portuguese Water Dog for sure!! I am fortunate enough to have one and must say they are the greatest dogs!! Full of personality beauty and intelligence these dogs are lovable, great with kids, and loyal beyond belief. They equally love to fetch a ball as well as sit on your lap for hours too. My PWD learned quite a bit of tricks too!! It comes with great excitement that Obama may choose this breed, I hope he does!!

They should get a miniature schnauzer. They are adorable, and well behaved…plus they don’t shed!!!

the dog pound has purebred dogs also, maybe they can rescue a dog from the pound. so many dogs waiting to be adopted and rescued. whatever they choose, their little girls will be happy with their new dog.

I think they should get dachshunds… I have four of my own. Dachshunds are small, shorthaired (good for allergies) and cute and are lots of fun… besides when you have to clean up after them (and the girls will not have to) with big dogs comes bigger poop… YUCK!!

I like both the Portugeuse Water Dog AND the Labradoodle. Both dogs are fun to play with and loyal. But my personal preference would be a Black Lab because they are fun!

I think the family dog should be a pure bred Pomchi, Pomeranian, or a Charles Spaniel or Yorkshire Terr. I would perfer the small dog for the family, i little more easy to train and watch..

I think they said they were going to get a dog from a rescue place. They have them for all species of dogs.
Mr and Mrs Obama, just explain to your girls what the rules are about picking out a dog on size and whatever else yopu want them to know. Then Let THEM pick it out, It will definitely be something they remember all their lives.
I know you and your wife might shed a tear or 2 yourselves.
Keep me posted.. Good Luck !!!

There are so many unfotunate pups out there; so many without homes that need love and care. I believe a dog from a RESCUE mission would be the very best choice for the Obama family. Not only would they give a beautiful loving home to a precious dog, but wouldn’t it be the most wonderful way for the Obamas to show how much they TRULY CARE for those less fortunate ‘beings’ in this wonderful country of ours, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

i think he should get his girls a beagle, they make a very good dog, thay have all family values and are loyal to there people, i think the girls would enjoy a beagle much more there are three sizes of beagles, the mini is the best by far they don’t take up much room and love to share the house with you.

Pound toy poodle would be my choice. Gtert for girls and mon and day. When all else fails it has to be a pound dog.

RESCUE A MUTT!!!!…Labradoodles are wonderful dogs…but can be a BIG challenge if you’re not an experienced owner..H20 dogs are great, but doesn’t Ted Kennedy have some? What I think the family should do is RESCUE….Get a mutt from a shelter, it sends a great message to our country… you don’t need a PURE bred dog. A dog is a dog, and there are HUNDREDS that do not have homes.
