Nick on Jessica: I Can't Believe It's This Big of a Story'

Nick Lachey spoke to "Extra" about the recent media attention ex-wife Jessica Simpson has received about her weight, saying, "I wish her nothing but the best and I hope she's happy -- whatever size that comes in."

The singer is shocked by the story's media coverage, admitting, "I can't believe it's this big of a story and people are making such a huge deal about it. I'm never ceased to be amazed by people's reactions to things."

Lachey, 35, and Simpson, 28, were married from 2002 to 2006 and starred in the successful MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" for three seasons.

Lachey spoke to "Extra" while in Tampa for the Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic. The star is raising money for the Nick Lachey Foundation and Jimmy Johnson Foundation. Lachey says, "The point is for everybody to have a chance to earn some valuable money for their charity... Everyone who played last year, had such a great time, [they] came back this year....We're very fortunate."

Seriously, this is being treated not only as big news, but as a scandal. First off, Jessica does not appear to have gained weight. Second, what if she did? Is that a big taboo? Either way, this is in no way worthy of being the top story of the week. I wouldn’t even call it the slightest bit interesting. Why should I care if Jessica Simpson has put on weight?

Why is this even news? I’m glad every time I put on a few pounds it doesn’t make my local newspaper. This poor girl gets a lot of crap over every move she makes just because she got out of a bad marriage. I think she is a beautiful, talented young girl and a great role model. Nick has no expression on his face when he is talking about Jessica. He moved on way before the divorce and his cheating with Vanessa is the reason for their marriage ending. Maybe he will get a few album sales out of talking about her again because he is only interesting when he talks about her.

Jessica is skinny in person. The outfit wasn’t flattering so the press needs to back off (Extra included). All this “Hoopla” over gaining a few pounds! Jessica looks like a healthy & happy women. I do not know who started the idea of celebs having to be thin ? I am 5”2” 138lbs,medium build & hour glass figure. I am a nurse and according to the BMI chart, I am just six pounds over weight, for my height & build. Still, even @ 132 lbs, I would be considered fat, by Hollywood standards. Women of Hollywood, take a stand now ! Be yourself, be comfortable in your skin. Tell who ever it is that you refuse to be “under weight”! Stand by your principals, even if you stand alone. You are not all about what the size says. Depending on the maker, sizes vary. I can wear a size 6 to an 8 or 9. Not many women with curves, wear a size 2 or 4 . Amen Sister !
