VOTE: Michelle is Golden in Isabel Toledo!

Fashionistas, the wait is over! Incoming First Lady Michelle Obama is wearing a sparkling gold dress for her husband's inauguration.

0120michelledress.jpg

The golden gown was designed by Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo, and is in keeping with Mrs. Obama's habit of choosing lesser-known designers for high-profile events.

Michelle donned a black gown from the same designer for a New York City fashion world fundraiser in June 2008.

Tell "Extra" -- Was Michelle's inaugural gown a hit or a miss?

NEXT: Hatcher: 'Amazing to Be in D.C.'

1. The overjacket did not appear to have snaps, hook/eyes, buttons on the inner linings or other closure mechanism.

The was the formal presentation of a President and First Lady. The overjacket had ongoing billowing movement away from M’s body and at times appeared to hit the Pres. This distracted focus from the President. Does her clothing belong on his body or hers?

I feel she’s statuesque so has a strong visual imprint under any circumstance. In this event her “footprint” and by this I mean the space taken by her body and clothing versus his was larger than life and overpowering.

2. The lemongrass shift was beaded. The beading or lining was constricting from the body movement during the walk and did not have a smooth appearance from neck to hemline. Fitting for a beaded shift is more difficult because the body has daily, considered to be normal, weight, hormonal, and fluid retention fluctuations which can redistribute mass on the skeletal frame.

There was bunching and wrinkling of fabric in areas that emphasized the breasts and area from the waist to the pelvis. The hips and belly appeared larger which made M.O. appear overfed or somewhat pregnant. I won’t say a thing about the upper thighs, but….

The event was the President’s chance to shine. His appearance and composure was just right. It’s about the President, remember?

Why did Michelle want all eyes on her? Was she afraid of an assassination and thus wanted clothing as a mechanism to draw focus to her and was this to protect her family?

With a less ornate, longer bodice with closures used for the overjacket I might have supported this outfit.

I am writing this from the perspective of the home viewer. This is not meant to be overly brutal because I am sure B. and M. are being developed for higher purposes than simply the 4 years or ?? that they are President and First Lady. I am also sure the First Lady will touch and develop many lifes.

God Bless America.

hey Scarlett, who died and made you a fashion expert?

Michelle’s dresses were hideous. First, we got this sparkly gold number that reminds one of drapery gone wrong, ala Carol Burnett’s version of Scarlett O’Hara replete with curtain rod. The color choice was wrong for her and the event. Her choice of ill-matching greens for both her gloves and shoes brought back horror memories of 1970’s avocado-ish kitchens. The white ball number was actually supposed to be a pale yellow, and the fact that no one seems to grasp this reflects upon the poor color choice it was as well. The one shoulder fuzzy dress reminds one of a very old and used feather duster, and when shaken fall off leaving bits and pieces just hangin on. It was too long since her husband kept stepping all over it when they were dancing (if you could even call them sorry moves dancing). She really should have had done something with her hair which looked far from glamorous.

Hopefully Michelle will get a clue and hire some fashion consultant or she will be mocked by every drag queen looking for a big laugh. If Michelle hadn’t ordained herself queen of fashion then perhaps we could be even more forgiving of all her really really bad fashion choices. Michelle doesn’t get that some women are born with style no matter their income level or their upbringing and obvioulsy Michelle was not!!!

Though the outfit was interesting I disagreed with the choice. DC temp was 14 to 17 F adjusted for the wind chill factor. The skirt was approx knee length. The legs and hands were bare and the front of the over jacket was open. The material did not appear to be winter weight.

It was really scarry to think of resulting health concerns such as pneumonia, flu, cold, exhaustion or fainting from keeping the body temp constant.

Also, the shoe heels were tiny. Since she looked around the crowd and was not able to take notice of where she walked a twisted ankle or fall might have occurred.

The day was highly stressful so required substantial thought to clothing that would support the prolonged exposure AND support the Pres. by NOT being being something people would react to.

First impressions and all that.

I was so concerned with the possible consequences of the inadequacy of the attire that my thoughts were not on the President but whether she was competent to fulfill the responsiblities of this office.

I also questioned what was going on with the family, D.C,. the Pres, the Secret Service, and Mrs. Robinson (mother) that a coat or wrap was not made available.

It was difficult to notice the President because of her drama.

Nevertheless, we are discussing Mr. No Drama and Mrs. President —- what a stunning couple!

MICHELLE OBAMA AND LAURA BUSH ARE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE ON THE INSIDE, AND THAT IS WHAT I SAW THAT DAY. THEY JUST SHINED. President Obama thinks the world of Michelle and what can hold a candle to that. Their love for each other stole the show, and it does so everytime. They truly seem to have so much fun together in life. How many people have that!!! Michelle could have worn a garbage bag, and he still would have thought she was the most beautiful woman in the room. Now THAT was something to BEHOLD!!!

I would just like to say that I admire Michelle Obama very much. That being said, I think she looked very stoic in the morning, However, that white dress she wore in the evening was not very becoming for her figure. Perhaps if it were more trumpet shaped, or if it was straight with a corset bodice to hold in her belly and give her a more hourglass shape (as opposed to being gathered at the waist), it would have looked more becoming. I think she needs to fire whoever told her that it looked good, too. That being said, I have seen Michelle look very beautiful on many occasions, and I know she can do much better…but I must say that I was very disappointed because of all the hype surrounding the “ball gown”. But maybe the Lord used that as an opportunity to bless that designer, because Michelle did wonders for his career. So all of you who are saying that she is ugly, need to stop being mean because beauty comes from the inside…THAT IS WHAT COUNTS!!!

Michelle is a very beautiful woman.
She looked very nice in the black dress with brown coat on the train.
Her dress for the speech looked very nice on her. However it was inappropriate for the time and ocassion. The green gloves and shoes were also poorly choosen for the outfit. I do think the coat was also very poorly made too. If she had worn the speech dress for the ball with other accessories it would have been great.
As for the ball gown I will agree it looked like it was made by an amateur. It also did look like an old bedspread.

It’s true - you can’t please all the people all the time. Some people are jealous. Some people are very critical of themselves so you cannot expect them to have anything nice to say about someone else. Remember what goes around… Michelle has the right and privilege to choose and wear whatever she wants whether it looks good or not. She is a beautiful First Lady!

Michelle Obama is no Jackie Kennedy. The green gold dress was much too glitzy for daytime. The evening dress had no grace—it looked like a dress that had been washed too many times and was limp. She needs a stylist.

I laugh at the editors on TV lauding her outfit—they don’t want to get locked out of the White House. It’s all so self-serving.

She should have went to the DAV store, she would have looked better, that white dress was terrible, and it did look like a bedspread. But remember she has no experence, experence always shows in anything.Hopefully everything will get better with time.

The gold brocade was definitely a miss. The white gown was lovely, but a bit too bridal for my taste. The color suited her, though. She will probably reach a better balance as she goes.

People take a look at the coat. The seams are showing. In an outfit that expensive it should be more tailored. Boy does Michelle need help.

Ladyphoenix if Michelle with all Michelle’s big time connections can’t look decent as a First Lady then she deserves the criticism.
At least people are not blasting her children like the Obama camp did to Palin.
The outfit for the speech not right for the occassion and time. It was too flashy and the color looked horrid on her.
The ball dress was very ill fitting and looked like it was homemade by an amateur. Reminded me of Carol Burnet’s show where she used drapes for a dress. In this instance it looked like Michelle used a bedspread.

Cocktails, anyone???? Tasteless, like her husband’s use of the “finger” with regard to his female opponent…and all of us women!

Michelle is an attractive woman, but has a masculine stature. The camel outfit she wore on Sunday to the concert was great. Very becoming. The dress for the swearing in was okay - but yes a bit much for daytime and a bit old fogie. The white ball gown was beautiful but unbecoming on her. She would have looked much better in something that wasn’t sleevless/backless and maybe in royal or sapphire blue or even a royal purple.

Michelle is just not attractive..she really looks like a man in so many respects so any dress doesn’t make her look elegant or classy..she truly is ugly..just look at those ugly legs, and thunder thighs

Her dress is absolutely beautiful, but her posture and demeanor did not match the dress. She is still young but she looks like she has osteoporosis. She can look regal if she takes care of that posture. She is no Carla Bruni and if ever they meet, it will re-enact or revive the Nancy Reagan vs Raisa Gorbachev’s fashion competition.

The dress was sequined brocade. Inappropriate for daytime before 5pm. The sparkly stockings didn’t help. I couldn’t see the color of the shoes on TV but the gloves looked more celedon. Shoes in the picture look almost teal…not good. The gloves should not have been wrist length but more formal. The prom dress made her look huge. The skirt looked like it was very frou frou. Not a good for someone with her wide hips. His white bow tie didn’t look right and his red tie had a checkered pattern…it would have looked better solid or at least something more subtle.
