Hero Pilot Catapulted to National Fame!

US Airways pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed the miracle plane in the Hudson River, is heading to D.C. with the stars!

The Mayor of Danville, Calif., his hometown, told AP the pilot and his family left for the east coast on Sunday. An aide to President-elect Obama dished that all five members of the Flight 1549 crew were invited to the nation's capital for Tuesday's inauguration.

Matt Lauer of the "Today Show" has snagged the first interview with Sully, but Matt tells "Extra" that his chat with the pilot has been postponed, pending further investigation into the splash landing. Lauer also revealed that Chesley is shocked by the attention he is attracting. "He's a little bit dumbfounded by the level of attention this has generated."

The story of the safe river landing for all 155 passengers is the stuff movies are made of, and "Extra" wants to know -- in a movie about Flight 1549, which actor should play pilot Sully?

Don't see your pick here? Write a comment below and tell "Extra" who you think should portray Sully on the big screen!

George Clooney would be great to play Sully but Sully is a pretty quite guy so maybe Harrison Ford would be best.

The lawyer who sues Capt Sully should be played by Jayson Alexander.

This is a great time in history between Obama and Sully plus Hillary as Secretary of State who will be a great help to Obama in foreign policy and country relations. We now have people we can believe in for America.

Sully is well experienced in the field of flying planes, and making the right decision at the right time. He is a hero because he was the pilot not the co-pilot.

The reason for Sully being called the hero is because he took the controls and knew where to and how to land the plane without incident. He was the pilot not the co-pilot of the plane. The pilot is always in charge and makes the decisions and thank goodness he was the right pilot at the right time. Yes, the co-pilot and flight attendants did help the people but Sully made trips back and forth to see that everyone was out of the plane not thinking about himself. I believe he will get a key to the city of NY by Bloomberg and the airlines should give him a good boost in salary. He deserves it.

Yes as an ex Airline man I appreciate what the Capt and First off. did to save all the passengers and rest of the crew. He must have a very steady hand in all aspects. God Bless you all

It seems that the headline of this article is only partly correct ~ the WHOLE CREW WAS INVITED ~ including the pilot ! According to all the media accolades ~ there is no need for flight attendants and co~pilots on ANY future commercial flights, only PILOTS. ”””””””””””’MEDIA, it takes an entire crew to handle an emergency onboard an aircraft…and an entire rescue crew on the ground. Survival is not a one person event.

Both Obama and Sully Sullenberger are national heroes. They represent the finest of American society.

I am so happy that Sully will be at the inauguration. What a miracle, the plane could have broken up, it could have caught fire, yet he landed the plane like it was a water aircraft. And then to help all the people out of the plane instead of him bailing out, says alot about this man. He is a hero. AMAZING!!
