I have always been interested in knowing, fully, what a “complete” eye exam would or should I say COULD contain. I know there are tests for glaucoma and other eye issues. But as we can go to a docor for the yearly “physical” if we asked for a “complete eye physical” what ALL could that contain, meaning checking not for just what is wrong (needing glasses) etc. and not just the minimal but the maximum ultimate eye exam, covering everthing an eye professional could do. And which eye doctor would be the best for such an extensive testing which could cover it all? So I am interested specifically in what is a complete and full list for everything than can be done to check the eyes. “The Works”. I would also be interested if others have had such a curiousity concerning this topic as I have have. I usually get “fast” eye exams half an hour or under, but one hospital really spent well over 2 hours once, even looking in depth with a light machine and it intrigued me they could think of SO much to do in that eye exam, and although I was not told what was done, it seemed test after test after test.
I was told I would be totally blind before ago 30. I am 47 and have bad vision, but still can see. I have worn eye glasses since the age of 3 or 4, learning to read at a very early age.I had an eye strain the doctors told me back then, and that progressed to worse vision from that moment to now, with blindness in the future, but it has not gotten that bad. I did get bifocals in my early 30’s. So all the eye problems I had made me wish to know if all exams pertaining to my eyes had been done, and just what those would be.
One final question I would like answered is I was told that my “oil ducts” not the tear ducts in my eyes do not function. Just what purpose do those do, and the importance of those is something I would like explained. And also if there is any treatment for it. I was not given any.
It is one thing when an car runs out of oil… but what about my eyes? Thanks so much.

I wake up with severly bloodshot eyes every morning. Clear Eyes eye drops help for like an hour, then I have to use them again. Is there a cure for this, other than eye drops for red eyes and what causes this?

Over the past year I have noticed that when trying to focus on an object or a person in front of me my vision seems blurred and I feel as if my eyes are crossing. Even when I am standing and talking with someone my eyes feel as if they are crossing and the perosn in front of my seems a little blurry and I cannot focus on them clearly unless I step back. Can this be from over worked and tired eyes.

I have always had floaters for as long as I can remember. I’m nearsighted and worn glasses since 4th grade. Can floaters go in the opposite direction of the way your eye moves? I don’t notice the ones in my right eye as much because they move with my eye movement, but the ones in the left eye move opposite to the way I’m moving my eye.

Hi Doctor,
My father was diagnosed with Glaucoma and has lost the sight of his left eye. I heard it’s hereditary. I’m 39 years old and haven’t had any major eye problem so far. What are the symptoms for glaucoma? I use Visine almost on a daily basis (have used it for more than 10 years). Does it have any side effect?
Sincerely,
Mia
